1158.0. "1991 Deer and Bear Harvest report for N.H." by SALEM::MACGREGOR () Wed Apr 22 1992 12:18

    Yesterday I took a ride up to the N.H. Fish and Game Headquarters in
    Concord to personally put in my N.H. Moose Application, which no
    applications were to be found anywhere. I do have a couple extras if
    anyone is interested. WHile I was there I picked up the 1991 Deer and
    Bear Harvest report that F&G puts out every year. I will print a few of
    the facts. There was a total of 9,851 deer killed in N.H. in 1991. Of
    that there was 8,792 taken by hunters and 1,059 killed in other ways.
    There was 5,925 Bucks taken by hunters. 2,867 does taken by hunters.
    By county it goes like this; Belknap-529, Carroll-771, Cheshire-1067,
    Coos-867, Grafton-898, Hillsborough-966, Merrimack-1142,
    Rockingham-1159, Strafford-704, and Sullivan-689. There was a total
    number of bucks taken by archery was 353, muzzleloader was 886, and
    firearms was 4,686, total of does taken by archery was 379, muzzle was
    739, and firearms was 1,749. For the first time in many years there was
    a deer kill in N.H. of 1.00 per square mile by hunters.
    	There was a bear kill of 149 last year. 124 by hunters. 91 of those
    were hunting for bear and 32 while hunting for something else (31 while
    deer hunting and 1 while bird hunting). 29 by use of dogs, 15 over bait
    and 47 by neither. Of the 26 other, 15 were killed by car and 3 were
    killed for nuisance problems. 70 hunter killed bears were taken in the
    month of September, 45 in October and 22 in November and 1 in December.
    	Of the Miscellaneous Deer kill, 864 were by car, 32 by coyote, 22
    by dogs, 14 drowned, 4 by fence, 43 by hunter that were left in the
    woods, and 45 illegal.
    	If anyone would like a copy let me know by E-mail. Or if someone
    would like to know the specific kill for a certain town, also let me
    know by E-mail.

1158.1a couple more points of interestSALEM::MACGREGORWed Apr 22 1992 14:3912
    	After reading some of this info I thought I would add a couple more
    points of interest. There were 5,062 bucks and 2,456 does taken by
    resident hunters for a total of 7,518. For Nonresidents it goes like
    this, 863 bucks and 411 does for a total of 1,274. This comes out to a
    14.5% ratio of nonresident kills, which is just about the same ratio of
    licences sold between residents and nonresidents. Also I thought I
    would add the amount of bears taken by county. Coos had 32 males and 15
    females for a total of 47. Merrimack had 14 males and 9 females for 23
    bears taken. Sullivan had 1 male and 1 female for 2. Carroll had 12
    males and 7 females for 19, and Grafton had 34 males and 24 females for
    a total of 58.
