1149.0. "Hunters-Ramblings!" by MCIS5::PAPPALARDO (A Pure Hunter) Tue Mar 10 1992 14:52
@ March, 92 ...Hunting proves to be safe. Hunting accidents fell 52%
during a 32 year period.
During the 60's there were 214 accidents, 70's, 172, 80's,102,
1991, 10, 1992,13. These are N.H. stats but the decline is
nationwide. N.H. sold 100,000 lic in 91.
36% of all accidents in the last 15 years were self inflicted.
95% of those shot were actually hunting.
39% of the cases a hunting partner was the shooter.
90% of all hunting accidents happened at distances less than 300ft.
@ N.H. Moose hearing set for 12-March to decide if we should increase
the moose permitts from 100 to 190. There was more than 170
accidents last year between cars and moose.
Hearing is at 7pm, F&G region 1 office in Lancaster.
@ Coyote hunt gets o.k. in Vermont; The VT. house approved a bill that
will legalize hunting coyotes at night, using a spotlight and
electric calling devices. RED & AMBER lights only!
@ Maine sets 92' Moose season. 05-Oct thru 10-Oct.
@ Hoorayyyy! 6 more states by overwhelming margins adoped hunter
protection statues. 44 states now have hunter protection laws on the
books. The new states added are; Alaska, Arkansas, Iowa, Mississippi,
Ohio, and Wyoming. The average margin of victory was 9 to 1.
The only remaing states left is; Massachusetts, Alabama, Hawaii,
Nebraska, New Jersey and New Mexico...Come on people, contact your
state chapter of Wildlife Legislative Fund of America(WLFA) to help
you get your state to align with the rest of the country.
@ New Mexico has a new state record bighorn sheep. The Ram measured
188 and 4 eigths points with B&C.
@ Massachusetts set 3 new records; Bowhunters took 1,393, deer
surpassing 1990 record 1061. Shotgun hunters took 6,977 vs last years
5,334. Muzzleloaders took 871 breaking 89's record of 808.
With a great winter for deer we can expect the same excellent
conditions this upcoming year!
@ Oklahoma hunters set a new deer harvest record, 44,604 for Bow/Muzzle
vs last years 44,070. Included in the total were 31,498 bucks..WOW!!
@ N.Y. state has strated a program to link kids with experienced
hunters. Contact N.Y. F&G if interested...(The Apprentice Hunter
Program).
@ Virginia to increase hunting. F&G will add a $10. stamp for an
additional 2 deer, present limit is 3 (WOW...Hey honey I got my 5th
deer this year,ha,ha,ha,) Anyway, Virginia is also considering
another Muzzleloader and Bow season in their calendar.
Seems the insurance companies are screaming about the number of
deer/car accidents and their crop damage funds are depleted.

Thanks Walt! It's good to know at least something has been submitted.
Of all the states, Mass needs this!!!
Oh yeah one more thing, I found out that you don't need to pass a NRA
course in order to purchase a Mass hunting lic., I couldn't belive it!
But it's true...unless somethings changed in the last 30-days?
