| You will find the hunting here is really great.
Where will you be working , Southern area or CSC?
You will find a lot of hunters and shooters here in the facility.
And if you get lonesome for yankee-land, there are a lot of Yank
transplants here at the center

Wow Red! that's quite a change, probably will take some time
adjusting - maybe not though if you've wanted it for a long while.
From everything I hear of the south, you'll find plenty of deer and
turkeys to suit you (unless I'm hearing tall tales :') )!!!
Good luck with the move and all -
P.S. As to the deer being safe at camp..... I don't think anyone
will have to worry about finding ANY deer left on that side hill after
the dogs get done with them. I've contacted the wardens, yet still
see dogs on the deer tracks. I need to make a call to them to see what
they've done (if anything). Problem is now that $$ are tight and they
are real busy.

| Welcome to Alpharetta Red! Earl and myself are looking forward to
meeting you and talking about hunting in the south, and hearing of your
experiences in the north. Earl has been a deer hunter in the south for
well over 15 years, and I have been taught deer hunting by hunters with
over 20 years experience. I am considered an intermediate hunter. If
you like fishing to, we can talk that to. Don't know much about turkey
though, sorry. Welcome to Georgia, hope you enjoy your stay. Give us
a call.

| Re. 3 ( Rob )
Are they dogs or are they Yotes that are tracking the deer.
It seems that the only dogs inthe neighborhood or either Bear dogs
or the passive one's down at the horse farm. There is a Yote population
in the area and last season I got on track with a pair of them up by
the Bever pond. Track 'em for awhile, but they were wandering back and
forth all over creation.

Earl, Bob, Leonard and the rest of you southern sportsmen, looking
forward to the southern hospitality and meeting/talking with
hunters in Ga.
I'll look you all up when I get there and get settled in.
P.S What does a resident license cost, and how long do I have
to be there to be considered a resident ? Will I need proof
of taking a hunter safety course or can I show a previous
hunting license ( Vt. 1991, 1990, 1989 etc. ) ?

1145.7 | Yes they are dogs | SKIVT::WENER | | Thu Feb 27 1992 07:58 | 13 |

Red,
At first glance, I thought it was just a pack of coyotes,
but the tracks were kinda small and they were all travelling
together... Whatever that means. Anyway, I saw a beagle trailing
a deer and another black shepard in the same section of woods where
all the tracks were... The beagle I'm sure is from the horse farm,
I'm not sure where the other dog came from... I have to wonder how
long these dogs have been doing this - Brian tells me it's a deer
yard in that area.

| Rob,
Not to rathole this topic, but Yote tracks are pretty easy to tell
apart from dog tracks, and to be honest, it's the dog tracks that
are bigger.
Yote tracks are pretty small and the toes are pointy with only the
front 2 claws registering, whereas the dogs toes tend to seperate
and widen out with all the claws registering.
Sounds to me like Yotes...

| Red,
hunting license is around $8.50
big game tags (deer) $7.50
if you were born before 1-1-61, you do not need a hunter safety card.
If you were born after that date, you will need one.
You need big game tags for turkey, even though you don't use them. You
must have them in your prescence.
If you want to hunt WMA's(wildlife management area), the stamp is
around $16.00. Fishing licenses are from 4-1 thru 3-31. Get
everything at walmart. They have it all. They have a real good
Walmart just down hwy 400 and exit 4. DEC is at 400 and exit 7.

| Bob,
Thanks for the information. Didn't realize that Walmarts
was that close to ALF. As for being born before 1-1-61, I pass
that by quite a few years, thought I'm not that old that when
I sweat rust come out.
Thanks,

1145.12 | drivers license=proof resident | OPENED::LIBS_C | | Fri Feb 28 1992 08:30 | 8 |
| Red,
All you need for proof of residence is a current laminated Ga.
drivers license. This usually tajes 4-6 weeks to get after application
You are required to get a drivers license within 30 days of residency
Some Mom and Pop type places that sell license will accept a temporary
license as proof.

| Red:
You'll like the ALF facility and Georgia in general. I was down there
2 1/2 years ago helping on the install of all the machines in the labs.
In fact, I installed ODIXIE on the Saturday night that it was moved :-)
There's another hunter down there to look up. His name is John
Dickenson (JD for short). He's in Field Service (Digital Services) log-
istics on the bottom floor...
If any of you folks know Jerry Howard, tell him that the NH folks
from INDEC services say Hi !
BTW, what's the temperatures been like down there lately?!? :-)

| Aahhh, the weather. It has been in the 70's in the day, and the 50's
in the evening. Yes, gardening season is upon us. It rains for two
days every 4-5days. Spring is here. The turkeys are gobbling. The
leaves are coming on trees, etc. 7 months until bow season. Until
then, bass fishing and golf.
JD, John dickinson, is a good guy, and a good hunter. Georgia hunting
is a good time. Looking forward to talk hunting. You can even go to
the Buckarama in August. boy heidi!!!
Bob
4 months until I pick up the bow to practice.

1145.16 | Georgia ups the limit for '92 | KURIUS::LIBS_C | | Tue Mar 10 1992 22:36 | 10 |
| Hi Red
I jist saw in the paper the other day that Ga has changed the limit on
deer for this season. In addition to the State limit of five, you can
harvest up to 2 per WMA hunt without taking away from the five regular
season. Close as i can figgure, if you got 2 per wmh hunt + five
regular season, you could harvest in the neighbor-hood of 35 deer 8-)
Course, you have to find them first and then connect. 8-),8-)

| Folks,
This will be my last reply here for awhile as all I have
is a captured ALLin1 account on SAHQ. I'm located at ALF2-1/D6
ext: 5-2942. My work schedule is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday from
06:45 - 19:15. Should leave me plenty of time to adjust to Ga.
and for Deer hunting in the fall. When time prevails I'll give
a call to Leonard, Bob and Earl.
Red
P.S Just love this Ga. weather. Heard that the N.E had a snow storm
on the first day of spring. Don't miss it at all.

1145.18 | Georgia trophies | ODIXIE::RHARRIS | Bowhunters never hold back! | Fri Aug 21 1992 09:39 | 18 |
| I figure this was as good a place to put this, instead of starting a
new file. Red, if you don't get Buckmasters, I keep forgetting if you
are a member or not, this will be interesting info.
Basically, the latest issue of Buckmasters had an article about the
Georgia deer hunting. It appears that the last couple of years,
this state has been increasingly pumping out more B&C P&Y bucks than
it ever has in the past. They are predicting that this trend continue
with no "relief" in sight. I will bring the article in to work and
type it verbatim in this file. Hey Red, I get my video camera today,
so I can video tape what I see on your stand during bow season! heh
heh heh!
BTW, 29 more days until bow season! Don't worry Red, I'll video tape
the kill of that massive 10 pointer from your stand. You won't miss
a thing.
