1128.1Hunting Preserve in Barre, Ma.ELWOOD::HDFLH::VINCIULLAWed Feb 12 1992 09:5219
    Greetings,

There is a hunting preserve in Barre, Mass.. The size of the preserve is
about 240 acres. The person who runs the preserve leases the land
from the owner who lives on the property.

1st year membership there is an initiation fee of: $150.00
       			       plus annual membership: $400.00
                                                       --------
    						       $550.00

This preserve has an extended hunting season of which I do not know
       how long the season is.

I have more info on this at home if you are interested I can post
    more information in another reply.

Remember 240 acres is not a lot of woods, it works out to about
.38 sq. miles. Of course if it has some amazing food sources on it,
it's going to be a magnet for wildlife...

    Just FYI...

The shooting preserve seasonin Mass. is Sept 15th - Mar 31st.
I believe Conn. is the same, Rhode Island may be a bit longer.

A minimum of 100 acres is required to be licensed by the
        state as a shooting preserve.

Prices do not vary a whole lot. John Q Public walking in off
the street should expect to spend about $20 / pheasant
    	(usually a minumum of 6), $14-$16 / Chukar (usually a minumum of 6),
    	and ~$6 - $8 / Quail (minimum of probably 15 - 25).

The membership fees which you pay at the shooting preserves afford
you a price break on your birds, preferred dates for your hunts,
and usually price breaks on 'birds over' (i.e. if you buy a 12
bird pheasant hunt and shoot 14 the extra two are free or reduced
price). Some membership fees include 'X' number of birds. Most
membership fees include off-season access to the property for
dog training or fishing (if fishing is offered).
