1100.0. "last dance" by ODIXIE::RHARRIS (only one shot, please!) Fri Dec 06 1991 09:08

This is my last weekend of hunting season, sob sob sob. It is
now getting to be post rut. I have yet to harvest a deer, although
I have seen plenty. It is either sex hunt now. I will kill a doe if
I see one. I have no idea where to hunt. I screwed up reading all
these periodicals, hunting magz, etc, that I am dumbfounded as to where
to hunt. We have had a cold snap this week, lows in the 20's, highs
are now climbing slowly back into the high50's to low 60's. It is
    clear, no storms etc.

where do I hunt? The thick crap, the swamp, the hardwoods. I need
some advice from you guru nimrods.

    no meat in the freezer

The swamp. Even if you don't score, you'll know you've put your
    all into it >;-)
1100.2Head for the ZOO!DESERT::HORNThu Dec 19 1991 14:5924
With time running out, you want to go where you have the best odds.....
I suggest that you hunt in you local ZOO.

Be careful with those mags. I'm not suggesting that they are not
good, some are. It's just that an article has to be "reader
attractive" to get published. So, some of the authors add spice to the
story. You also get Eastern writers publishing articles about the
Western Mule Deer (that they watched for a month in the Boston zoo).
So, what I'm trying to say is take it all in stride and use common
sense. Animals are like you and I. They prefer the easy routes to
travel, they prefer a dry bed Vs. walking in a storm, if its a nice day
that makes you feel like falling asleep under a shade tree chances are
you won't see much game sprinting around either, if its cold and you
need to stay active to stay warmer then most likely they are more
active as well, etc. DO NOT OVER THINK. The deer are where you find
them, which could be any where! I always go to the end of the world on
my hunts...I'll drive my 4x4 truck to death, then back pack in a camp,
then hike out from there on opening morning. Well I have a friend that
just gets out of town and them starts looking. Sure enough, he finds
4 pointers (Western scoring) Muleys just like I do.

Good louck, but most of all....Have a great time!
    Happy Holidays,
    Scott
