1087.0. "More weight for the anti-hunters." by TROOA::KING () Mon Nov 25 1991 09:19

This isn't a hunting accident, in fact its a murder, but its bizarre
nature chocks up another for the 'other guys'.
Just thought you might want to know....Mr. moderator, feel free
to remove it if you think it inappropriate for this file.

In Ottawa, Ontario a few weeks back in broad daylight on a busy
downtown street an estranged ex-husband approached his former wife
unsuspectingly from behind. He had a loaded crossbow *concealed*
in a green garbage bag. He placed the bow on her back as it
appeared she was unlocking her car door. He killed her with one
	shot through the heart....

Not a very thrilling thought... I'm sure the antis will enjoy this.

Garbage bags should be illegal!!! If they were she'd be alive today!!! Besides
they're bad for the environment! Do you know how dangerous they can be in the
hands of children? Let's pass a law now, for the benefit of society!!!
1087.2CUPID DRAW BACK YOU BOWOASS::SOBCZYNSKI_LMon Nov 25 1991 13:0913

I disagree with banning plastic trash bags, where would i puke when the
brady live time theater came on? Wife don't like it on the floor or
    couch, and paper bags leak.

Well consider the other side, perhaps he was trying to win her back and
felt like playing cupid. Perhaps there is too much unintentionally
applied violence in valentine cards. Perhaps a law suit against the
card manufactures might shake them up and realize their
    responsibilities to society.

Maybe it was an accident. He may have picked up the wrong bag on the
way out of the house, easily done. :^)

Hey guys, this is a serious topic. Don't forget that some non-hunters
and anti-hunters may read this. The attitudes exhibited in that last
few are just what we don't need.

This is frustrating, the topic here deals with a crossbow, it has
nothing to do with a gun, nothing to do with hunting. I do believe
that radical groups could twist the bible into an 'X' rated book. I am
tired of being in the retreat, to stiffle our right to freedom of
speech because outside elements don't agree with us. There
are groups that would better serve mankind if they worked to strenghten
and enforce our judical system. Work to get criminals off the street,
and keep them off the street, feed the hungry, etc.. Like most self
serving groups they have no regard for the consequences of their
    actions.

Your right the senseless taking of a life is serious matter, and maybe
if self serving groups where more interested in man and the enforcement
of our laws this wouldn't have happened. I believe with out going on
in great detail the general idea is conveyed.

What does an anti hunter and a preacher have in common? They both have
    record players that play backwards.

All in all, I wholeheartedly agree with the last note. It is a
tragedy, AND I don't see what it has to do with hunting, so how can
it be "Ammo" for the non hunting types? I don't want to open a can of
worms, that goes under fishing notes.

    good hunting

1087.8Ok. Ok...maybe I was off on the title!!TROOA::KINGWed Nov 27 1991 10:3918

    WOW!

Certainly didn't mean to raise a stink, everyone. I suppose the title
for the note is a little off.

I just thought people might be interested to hear. Most murders take
place with handguns, shotguns etc. Crossbows seem a little archaic.

I guess I figured that because of the different style of assault, this
case would be a little more in the forefront than any other murder with
a gun. I suppose looking back that this might not be the case. Since
I'm not from Ottawa myself, I never heard if anything came of it.

Suppose we all get a little touchy when someone mentions those that
    oppose.

1087.9Ban Crossbows and KnifesOTOOA::BELLONIThu Nov 28 1991 18:5927
    HI,

I from Ottawa. This has definatly been a tragedy. What is quite amazing
to watch is the reaction of the various anti-hunting, anti-gun,
anti-everything groups, the police departments, various members of our
parliament and of course the local women's groups. All have managed to
come to the same crystal clear conclusion; "CrossBows murder people
indiscrimenantly and being the barbaric devices that they are, should
be outlawed immediatly and anybody found in the possesion of one be
promply throw in the deapest of dungeons".

What ever happend to; " A despondent ex husband kills ex-wife. You
should have heard the sqauking, women marching on the parliament hill
demanding that crossbows be immediatly outlawed. Editorials in the
local rags whinning about how unbelievable it is that a person should
be allowed to go to a sport store and buy this device of mass
destruction. One opposition minister of parliament, I find it hard to believe that
we actually pay some of these guys with our tax money, was making noise
that the government should immediatly enact legislation controlling
crossbows, and all such things like even knifes. I am serious, the guy
actually said " control knifes " on national TV. Do you believe it?

This society is starting to suffer from serious paranoia and fear.
