I went hunting Saturday, and man did we stumble into a gold mine.
The morning hunt was unsuccessful, buck only hunt, and I had a doe
come right under my stand. A big doe at that. My friend Earl had
three doe and two bucks come by, but he couldn't get a shot at either
one of them.
So, for the afternoon, we decided to go meander through the woods a
bit, instead of hunt, and that is when we stumbled into a "Gold mine".
At the edge of a swamp, we spooked a big deer. We decided to walk in
the direction it took off running to. We came upon a PRIME bedding
area, surrounded by COUNTLESS rubs. Either one or more bucks had been
literally tearing up trees ranging from saplings to sturdy cedar trees.
We also ran into some freshly cleaned out scrapes. My heart was
beating like a rabbit. I think come this weekend, I am going to hunt
the scrapes.
BTW leonard, can you believe my wife of 3 weeks has actually given me
permission to go hunting for the weekend on our one month anniversary.
I do love her.

I have to work because I have no vacation time. I just spent two and
a half weeks off getting married and honeymooning. That is why I am in
shock that my beloved wife is letting me go for the whole weekend
hunting. Nobody else is hunting the property right now. The race is
going to be Saturday morning to see who claims that particular stand
area first. No problem. Their are other concentrated areas of rubs on
the property to, but I want to hunt this particular area. I have a new
hunting rifle, and need to put a notch on the stock this weekend if you
get my point. No venison in the freezer, except for what friends have
donated to me. I am still hunting for a rack to put on the living
room wall.

Bob,
Remember the radio commerical that has been running here in the area
for some time, about the guy who goes off for a weekend, gets back and
his FORD truck is gone? Talk with you after the weekend.
good hunting, hope your find proves itself to be good, keep us posted.
Cheers
Leonard

The "Gold Mine" is just outside of a town called Monticello, in
Georgia. Monticello prides itself as being the deer capitol of the
state of Georgia. Our hunting property is approximately 200 acres,
consisting of hardwoods, pines, and a "swamp". It is prime land.
I am very happy to see EXTREMELY large deer on the property this year.
I am thinking about bringing down a saddle. There are about 8 hunters
in the hunting club, with about 4 hunters hunting it at one time,
except for doe days. For doe days, you will see all 8 hunters.
Earl Shaddix, another contributor to this file, is a member of the
club, who has successfully harvested nice deer from this property EVERY
year. I have been hunting it for 3 years now, and everytime I hunt the
property, I see deer. I have harvested 3 deer off the property. Two
were does, and one button buck (on doe day). I am looking for that
elusive whitetail master buck to put on the wall, and feel very
confident about harvesting one this year. no more rambling on now.
good huntin,
bob

On a related note, western Mass. looked very very good when we
went out Saturday. Saw buckrubs right along the main road (Rte.
23 between Blandford and Otis) along the side roads, and the
woods were torn up in the area we hunted. There's gonna be some
real whackers taken this fall. (I've heard of two 198's and one
over 200 being taken so far by archers.)
