    The last time that I was rifle hunting up N.H. way....there was an
    accident about 400 yards from where we were sitting...seems a 
    local resident shot some poor 19 year old kid through the hip
    with a 30-06.  Kid survived but was paralyzed from the waist down.
    

    In Colo. a guide had his horse shot out from underneath him.

       Saturday Oct 19 1991 there was an Erie Pa. man shot in northern Pa.
    They didnt give details since an investigation is still in progress.
    
      My mom was out on an ambulance call the first week of Pa archery for 
    a man that fell out of his tree stand, he landed on his butt and broke 
    his spine, he is now paralized from the waist down, he fell from 18

    It was reported in the New_Hampshire notesfile that a hunter was shot
    and killed in Pawtuckaway State Park yesterday afternoon.  Has anyone
    heard any details?

       A 29 year old Manchester resident was shot at 4:30 P.M. and
    pronounced dead at 7:30 P.M. on Nov. 12th. The suspect has been
    identified but not named. No details.
       Latest rumor is he was shot twice. ???

       The rumor of the N.H. hunter being shot twice was a rumor. The hunter
     that was killed died from a single gunshot wound according to the
     Manchester Union Leader. He was was not wearing any hunter orange and he
     was in camouflage. He was shot by his hunting companion after the two
     split up. 
       In addition an 18 year old has been shot in the thigh, yesterday 
    Nov. 13th, while walking in his back yard. It is not life threatening
    and is being called a "hunter related incident".

    It all comes down to one thing, "USE YOUR EYES AND BRAIN!"

    I certainly hope that they prosecute the hunter to the fullest extent.
    I honestly can't see how ANYONE can see the familiarity between a human
    and a deer.  Be f$%^&n real!!!!!

    Update on the N.H. hunter that was shot and killed. According to the
    local T.V. station Ch 9 in Manchester the hunter that was shot arrived
    back at their truck first, removed his hunter orange and hid behind a
    tree. When his companion (said to be his brother in law) returned, the
    hunter jumped out from behind the tree and yelled boo ! He was shot on
    the spot.
                               

 The shooter had a .35 remington (lever action.) He obviously had the gun cocked
and the safety off. Not smart...

 Of course, jumping out from behind a tree to "surprise" a hunter isn't 
especially smart either. Bet he never does it again...

    Well, If you can't see it or don't know what you are 
    shooting at then don't shoot at anything. Common sense people.

    Worse than green plaid!  According to an interview with the investigating
    officer, the son was wearing a black cap with a white patch on it.  In
    deer season that is not a good idea.  He also mentioned that ALL
    members of the party were dressed in dark clothing.  I guess they were
    subscribers to the theory that trigger happy hunters will find it more
    difficult to hit what they can't see.

Not a good idea but common. There are other people in the woods that are
not hunting. Take a look at your kid's clothing - you will probably see more
white patches than orange. You are hunting a "legal" deer for the tags that you
have. You have to make sure that it is a deer and that it is a "legal" deer
for your tags before you shoot. You also have a moral responsibility to hit
a vital area when you shoot the deer. Lets see now...I just killed a deer
a few days ago...what were the steps leading to the shooting...

it is a deer... it has legal size antlers... aim for the
heart/lungs (had a clear view of the vital area)... BANG

Every deer I had taken was taken the same way.
It is pretty hard to shoot a person under these circumstances no matter what
they are wearing.

Re. the accident: I agree it is a tragedy for the family but it could also
read "Father kills son and self in a head on collision while driving on the
wrong side of divided highway." Maybe if the son was driving a red car instead
of the gray one...

Violating safety rules often results in some sort of tragedy no matter what 
you are doing.

In another notes conference, it has been reported that a Connecticut
man was killed by a hunter while he was jogging.  The hunter mistook
him for a deer.  According to the sketchy information I have, the
"hunter" is not being charged.  Also, local authorities are closing
the area in which this happened to hunting for a week.

That's all of the information I have about this, and I am not confident
of its accuracy.  Does anyone have a more complete version of this
incident?

      The Sprigfield Ma. paper had a short article on it.It happened
    in a small town that holds the resivoir for Waterbury CT?The victim
    was jogging on a access road in a blue jogging suit when one of
    a hunting party of three"out-of-towners" fired one shotgun blast
    killing him.The article also had a quote from a women who was taking
    her three small kids for a walk in that area.Wasn't a good view
    on hunting at vall.

    Read the same article, how in the *hell* does somebody mistake a
    guy in blue for a whitetail?
    
    The problem with a lot of guys in the woods today is that they think
    they *have to* get a deer. So they do stupid, dangerous things
    rather than keep *safety first* in mind. I remember a few years
    back, we were doing some small drives. I approached one of the
    guys, a youngster hunting for his first season. He told me, with
    a straight face, " I didn't see orange, and almost took a 'sound 
    shot' when I heard you." Sound shot? *SOUND SHOT*? Where in the 
    *HELL* are these kids learning this SHIT? I looked right at him and
    said, "Are you hunting 'sounds'? Or deer?" He didn't know what to say.
    I'd like to find the person who gave him the _idea_ of 'sound shots'
    and break his ass.
     
    There are plain too damned many people hunting 'sounds' or 'white
    things' or 'something moved'. Dammit, the name of the game is
    deer hunting. Nobody has any *right* to pull the trigger unless
    they are 100 percent *sure* that they are shooting at a legal deer.
    And anything less is not acceptible.

 Yeah, Dana. I've gotta say, I'm getting pretty sick and tired of these
<expletive_deleted>s making life tougher on us responsible hunters by
behaving so damn irresponsibly. I think that we as hunters have to distance
ourselves from the slobs. 

 When the hell are these jerks going to stop this?!! I can't stand it.
Maybe they should start hanging these guys who mistake joggers for deer.

    Perhaps someone in your state, (maybe you), or a hunting club, or group
    can try and implement leglislation for "slob" hunting acts to be
    considered a felony, and stiff penalties applied to them.
    
    As stated earlier in the notesfile somewhere, here in Georgia, about
    3 years ago the "pritchard morgan" bill was passed.  Pritchard morgan
    was an innocent child playing in his backyard who was shot and killed
    by someone claiming to be a hunter.  He saw white and shot.  The new
    law puts these a@@holes behind bars, and denies hunting privilages ever
    again.
    
    Back in time, I called hunting a right and not a privilage, nowadays I
    consider it a privilage, especially with all the crap going on.  We
    have be intolerant of slob, irresponsible hunters, and eliminate the
    bad apples.  We must be positive and responsible hunters and show the
    public what TRUE HUNTERS are all about.
    
    First step is trying to change the attitude of the slanted biased
    media.

    Short of publicity, there is no reason for any new laws for jerks who
    shoot people. The laws are already there, they can be charged
    with anything from manslaughter to negligent homocide. In my opinion
    they should be charged with the harshest one.
    
    We don't need laws, we need people to be held responsible for the
    actions they take, if the action breaks a law, lock-em up.

	"On Monday, a hunter was shot with an arrow by another hunter 
	while in the woods behind Spring Hill Farm on Great Road in
	Littleton.  Edward M. Warren, 24, of Littleton, is recovering from 
	wounds at the University on Massachusetts Medical Center in
	Worcester.  Littleton police are investigating the shooting, but
	say it was an accident, said police Lt. Joseph Lombardo.

	Lombardo said the man who shot Warren, whom police will not identify,
	was 20 to 25 yards away from the victim.  In the fading afternoon
	light, the hunter mistook Warren for a coyote, Lombardo said."
