I'll be sighting in my daughters and my own rifles checking all
the gear, buying what I need this week, as deer season opens for
Maine residents on Nov. 2nd.
I can't wait !!!! (But I guess I'll have to.)

1063.2 | I'm ready.... | RIPPLE::CORBETTKE | | Mon Oct 21 1991 14:29 | 17 |
| Already finished mule deer hunting in Eastern Oregon. Too dry for much
success. Permits only, but we landowners got ours. I went mostly to
check for fires. Did see a nice 4-point cross the road in front of me.
I would have had to shoot with one foot on the yellow line to get him,
so....
Elk hunting out of Durango Colo. this year for the first time. Season
starts Nov. 2nd. Reports from the landowner (an old buddy) is that the
deer and elk are thick on his property. I'm excited to say the least.
I'll be back for two days work then back to the cabin for the second
season. I spotted 7 bulls around the cabin during deer season, but
success for that second hunt depends on the weather. Hopefully we'll
start getting our winter weather soon.

1063.3 | Wyoming Dry ?? | GLDOA::BARTON | I Can`t Drive 55 | Tue Oct 22 1991 08:57 | 9 |
| Anyone know what I should expect in eastern Wyoming this year. I`ll be
leaving in a couple of weeks. I`ll be there hunting for seven days. Are
the conditions real dry there too.
I`ll be looking for my 3rd buck in 3 years. I`m still looking for that
wall hanger though. Maybe this year. I can`t wait.

Its dark...every sense is alive...the time has come...
A heavy frost starts to glisten as the morning sun starts to
peer over the horizon...
Cold, fresh air with a smell of fall enters your lungs with every
breath...
Birds start to chirp as they start their day...
A chipmunk skampers past, sounding very much like a freight
train barely audible above your pounding heart!
Your completely still, thouroughly encompassed in the waking forest.
You feel part of nature...
You turn your head slowly with razor sharp senses alert...
.. *SNAP* ..
Sorry, no buck fever here -;)

Nov 4th here in Ontario seems like an eternity away!

"You turn your head, Snap"!
Oh It's another hunter, hours pass, days pass, your up in the dark
on your stand before light. Nothing, nothing, where are the deer?
You lose your alertness through slow boreing hours afield, you get
careless, you hear snap,crunch...you say, Not another hunter, or red
squirel....you quickly turn....and there he is....only he sees you
first....bye,bye.......
ha,ha,.....this has happened so many times......oh well, I raring to
get out there this saturday...26-Oct with the thunder-stick....

1063.6 | Yes, but it so much fun!! | TROOA::KING | | Tue Oct 22 1991 15:02 | 13 |

Oh sure Rick! ... burst my bubble!
I must admit though, your story does sound a little more like
reality...I think I'll stick to mine though until opening day.
Makes you wonder though doesn't it. As you say, days in forest..
mornings so cold, you wonder if you'll ever regain feeling again...
Damp forests...blowing snow.... or that constant rain...days of 'was
that a deer!!'...After a week, you come out of the bush...ripe enough
to turn the bravest of noses...tired...sore...sounds like fun huh?
....see you there -;) / Andrew /

Just back a few days ago from a week in the woods, its really great.
Clean country air, quiet. Saw foxes galore, you know its quite when
one can hear a lizard running on the leafs. Will be heading up to camp
this Friday afternoon.
Ending up paying some dues because of a sudden drop in tempature.
Usually the morning and evening tempature ranges around 45+ in the AM
and 74+ in the afternoon, well the temp dropped to about 36 degrees,
and yes that little drop coupled with a breeze does make a difference.
Wish I had brought some warmer clothing.
However the overall outting was a great yearly experience

I'll assume, because of the relative close proximity of eastern
Wyoming to Colorado, that their weather is the same as ours.
I went the first 4 days of 2cd rifle season here in Colorado.
It started on 10-19. The weather was dry and hot. You couldn't
take a step without making noise.
However, the snows hit the high country Wednesday and that
should help you out. What rotten timing for me.........

Liar. :-)
My cousin lives in Brookline, near the Mason border, and there are plenty of
people that get deer right behind his house. He's got a buddy in Mason that
has deer that walk through his yard.
Get a topo map- there's plenty of stuff to hunt in that area. I got my deer in
Wilton last year, just a short drive from Mason and rifle country. :-)
You might try the Pratt Pond area.
