Walt,
There is an area between Rt. 117 and Rt. 2, traveling north out of
Bolton, about 1 1/2 miles on your left. Conservation land I believe...
It covers quite a lot of territory...and I have seen 7 or 8 hunters
there at a time...and heard that there have been deer taken...the area
is big enough...(your neighbors don't crowd you)....

Ron this place is on route 62 in Berlin. I called and asked what the
deal is. I was told that it is private and for family only. It seems
kinda fishy to me, seems all he had to do was post his land and he
could still hunt it. i may be wrong but I think the reason it was done
was to extend their hunting season. I don't know much about hunting
preserves but aren't they allowed to open their bird season early and
close late? Of course this is just my opinoin and not based on facts.
Thanks for the tip about the place outside of Bolton, I'm not too
familair with that area but I think you may be talking about the
Bolton Flats. I'll have to check it out.

If this person has designated his property as a hunting
preserve, he/they must have a nice sized chunk of land. I'm
pretty sure Massachusetts requires a minimum of 100 acres to
establish property as a shooting preserve. I believe there are
permits, rules and regulations which must be adhered to. And yes,
the shooting preserve season is MUCH LONGER (runs from Sept 15
thru March 31) than the 'open' season.
