990.0. "poacher's etc" by SHIPS::MERRETT_G () Thu Jul 18 1991 11:40
Hi,
I wondered if anyone in this conference knows whether night sight
binoculars are avaliable in the States or elswhere as in Britain they
are only sold to the Army etc,my question is do companies that sell
them export them? Any idea's on getting prices etc would be
appreciated, before you think that they will be used for the wrong
purpose i.e night hunting, the idea is to catch poachers and other
unsavorie characters,at the moment sleeping in a ditch waiting for them
is a bit uncomfortable and sometimes tiresome when there is the
technology to move around quietly scanning the area.
thanks for any idea's.
Guy.

Update on that: the manufacturer of the British army's night goggles are
seeking new (civilian) markets in the post cold-war "peace dividend" and so
are now selling them to the public (at 3500 a pair).
(From memory I think the company is Litton Industries, but I don't have any
contact info).

The source was last week's BBC1 farmer's news - apparently the Coop's farming
wing have been experimenting with plowing in the dark to avoid weed seeds
germinating: the tractor driver wears a pair of starlight goggles...
