981.1 | I WANT! | ODIXIE::RHARRIS | | Thu Jul 11 1991 13:12 | 11 |
| I will start. I want "Ole mossy back"!
I want a new rifle with scope.
I will purchase bowhunting equipment.
I will be in the woods this season.
I want to come out of the woods safely, without being shot at by some
irresponsible idiot.
I want the anti's to crawl back under the rock they came from.
But most of all, I want that rack that I have been waiting on.

All I want, which is'nt much, is to break the B&C record of the largest
White-Tail buck ever taken in history.
Then, only then, will I feel I've accomplished something.
Then I'll have to travel the country attending and speaking at deer
shows. Well it's a tough job but someone has to do it.
Oh well, maybe I'll settle for a spike so I continue working for DEC.
What do you think?

Good luck Rick! Not to doubt your abilities, but I've got a
feeling you'll need it :')
All I would really like is two things :
First to continue with my bowhunting luck (3 deer in the last 4
years, two of them bucks), and....
To take my first 200#+ buck by tracking up in Maine.. Give us snow

| Last night I was watching my Buckmasters hunting video, and read my
Buckmasters magazine, and then I dreamed of a perfect heart lung shot
with my bow on a perfect symmetrical 8 pointer. I woke up in a pool of
sweat!
I want my dream to come true. By the way for all you Georgia hunters,
this year's "Buckarama" is on August 17. I can't wait! This is better
then going to Disneyworld.
71 DAYS UNTIL BOW SEASON!!!!

with a heavy enough rack where I have to contemplate getting it mounted. :-)
Also, I wouldn't mind gettin' a few more days of hunting in before I get it.
:-)
I also want a peep sight for my rifle.

| you're not rubbing it in. Since your hunting season starts before
mine, I EXPECT to see you start the '91 harvest note. Go get em.
Right now, I am off to Jamaica for a week, then when I come back, it
will be time to start practicing with my bow. Then it's the Buckarama,
Then it's bow season. Then I get married (933.) That's why I am
getting into bowhunting this year. But, I will remain a bowhunter.
It's a damn shame that getting married is getting me into bowhunting.
I should have been a bowhunter a long time ago.

| My wife and I are building a house in Hampton, NH that is surrounded by
approximately 120 acres of woods. There's a heavily traveled trail that
runs from these woods through my lot and across the street to a swamp.
Looks like I'll have a convenient place to take a stand before and
after work this year.
What a drag, eh? :^)

| Our yard is only 125 ft. wide down near the road (900 ft. square up
over the mountain, though).
Yesterday a small spotted fawn came bouncing down onto the back lawn
while we were out putting water into a small child's wading pool.
The doe was nowhere in sight and I hoped the fawn would turn around
and go back up, but instead it went down beside the house and (just
missing a speeding car) crossed the road and went down to Pond River
and the extensive pastures & woods across the street.
I think it is old enough to survive by now, isn't it? (At least
there'll be water and food.)

Nancy,
Other than people, cars, fence-lines,coyotes, pet-dogs(the worst), the
fawn should do o.k.
BTW: The Doe clan and fawns should stick together for at least a year
if not more. Even if the mother-doe has died of some mis-hap
recently, the young deer will seek out it's own kind and they'll
form a group. A group is safer as there are more nose's, eyes, and
ears to protect them. This deer was most likely born between
April-May, they mature quite quickly so it should be able to
take care of it self.....but most likely it's with the mother
as we speak.

I thought that I could at least make it till July before the hunting
bug would bite, but alas it hit in June, actually it may never have
worn off from last year... ;^) Anyways, whats been making matters
worse, is that I've been seeing deer all over the place in Mass... and
hearing reports from everyone else stating the same... it seems that
the deer are everywhere, and to add fuel to the fire, my kids and wife
and the neighbors have been seeing 3-5 deer in the apple trees behind my
neighbors house. (RIGHT BEHIND my neighbors house) 15-20 yards behind
his house, 30-40 from mine... This morning I leave for work at 5:45
and see not 1 but 2 bucks eating apples, so I grabbed my binocs and
snuck up to within 15 yards and got a pretty good look... 1 nice
forkhorn and a beautiful 6-8 pointer... they must be in the process of
changing coats, as they looked kinda splotchy... impressive in velvet!
My neck is swelling!!! Fra

For all you Vermont Hunters.... We had the mildest winter in
22 years - since 1969! This was touted in the papers over the weekend
and in the Vt. Sportsman. I saw 6 deer one evening last week, one
6+ point buck (couldn't tell if it had brow tines). looks promising;
time will tell..

In yesterdays Burlington Free press, it was said that this years
Bow kill was the highest since 1979 - over 1,500 animals taken..
In addition, the November buck kill is over 8,000 animals and climbing
with an expected final kill number @ ~ 9K! Another mild winter and
we might have another banner year in 1992 - lets hope so!
Just an Fyi - Rob
P.S. I have a feeling that we'll be seeing doe permits in Vt very soon.

re .27
Don't know if this will make you feel any better, but all firearms
antlerless hunting in VT will be done OUTSIDE of the regular 16 day
Nov. firearms season. A law was passed last year to place the
antlerless hunting, by permit only, in the muzzleloader season. This
change was based on a survey and subsequent deer management meetings
held in the fall of '89.
Being selfish (I'm having so much fun being the only person in the
woods right now) this will ruin what attracts me most to the present
muzzleloader season. Oh well, it will only last so long...
