FID card is: Firearm Identification Card.
The method of obtaining one is to go to your town (city) Police
Department and fill out an application. If you are approved (ok)
then you will get a card. This card allows you to carry a gun in Mass.,
without it, if you are stopped, you are in big trouble, because
you will be considered carrying a firearm illegally.

This is only in a long gun unloaded, to carry a loaded firearm
(pistol/revolver) you must get a pistol permit again from your local
Police. Mass. is the olny state in New England(I believe) that has
this type of permit (FID).

as in the last reply, yes this allows you to carry a "long gun
(shot-gun, rifle), but for a pistol you have to apply for a
separate Pistol permit at your local Police department......

FID;s are only for Mass Resd. As an out of stater you don't need
one to purchase.
