| Geez,
Now if only the extremist anti's could leave the ethical type hunters
alone, that would be great! I am all for proper discipline of non-
ethical hunters. They give the law abiding hunter a bad name. My
neighbor is one of them. I won't go hunting with him. He will kill a
doe even if it is not a designated doe day. I don't want to be around
that kind of crap.
117 days until the opener. Damn! I'm getting married(933). Oh well,
guess it's 124 days for me.
Bob
btw, it's "compliments".

re -1
I understand about your neighbor. There is a guy who works for DEC
that has invited me to go hunting with him, from some of the things he
has told me not only will I NOT go hunting with him but if i know
he's in the woods I will leave. It's pretty sad to sit down with
someone to talk about hunting and everything he tells you he has done is
illegal or unethical.

976.4 | Would you turn them in? | CSCOAC::HUFFSTETLER | | Wed Jul 10 1991 11:23 | 25 |
| RE .1 and .2,
This brings up an interesting point. Would either of you
consider using the 800 number to anonymously turn in poachers?
That's a difficult option to consider when you think about
having to live beside someone, but poaching is poaching.
I can't say that I'd turn in a neighbor, but I think I'd try to
convince him that does were for doe days. A one time deal (at
least in my mind) is more excusable than if he continuously
flaunted the fact that he was killing deer or turkeys or bears
orwhatever illegally. If I knew that someone was blatantly
ignoring the game laws then I can say I'd be inclined to turn them
in. It's the people who totally ignore the game laws that give
the rest of us a bad name...
Whaddya think - what would someone have to do before you'd turn
them in?
Scott
PS I'm not preaching at either .1 or .2. I'm just wondering
what circumstances would lead someone to turn someone else in.
If this really goes in the "ethics" note or has already been
discussed, sorry...

I wrote reply .2 so I guess I'll tell you what I'd do.
I'd turn this or any other person in in a hearbeat, he/she is
stealing from you and me. Period. I met this person after deer season
last year so was unable to do anything. The problem I face is that
there is really no way I can prove what this person does unless I am
right there with him and I refuse to hunt with him. I have thought
about calling the Fish and Wildlife people but what can they do unless
they catch him in the process of doing something.
There are very few people I will hunt with, and those that I do obey
the laws so I am not worried about them. In fact one guy I hunt with
refuses to apply for a doe permit cause he thinks it's wrong to shoot a
doe, so I tease him and tell him I'll remember that and not give him
any meat if I get a permit.
As for this person who works for DEC, I think he reads this file and I
won't mention his name. But if he's reading this maybe he ought to
think about cleaning up his act and become one of us, a SPORTSMAN.

| Re. 4
As a matter of fact I have and will do it again...
Here is the story;
a "friend" of mine was asked by his future father in law to get a
couple of ducks for Christmans dinner.
Well, this "friend" of mine didn't have a migratory duck stamp, nor
a small game lic.(mandatory in Colo.); And on top of all this, this
was one of the years that the D.O.W really impressed on hunters NOT
TO SHOOT Hens. Well, this individual goes out without any of the Lic.;
and proceeds to shoot 4 hens. Well, I didn't call the 1-800; What I
did do was call the area D.O.W officer at home. She went over to
his house and did her job. I was given a reward of $250.00, which
inturn went into the Colo. non-game fund.
So, Yes I would turn a Poacher in; Because 10 or so years down the
road I'd really like to be able hunt like I do now...Meaning the
availability of game and property to hunt...
