If memory serves me right, 7800+ deer taken by hunters is a record.
Stats in Rockingham County are pretty fair.....1.9 or 2 deer per
sq.mile.

948.3 | more than previous year anyways | SALEM::MACGREGOR | | Fri Apr 19 1991 14:20 | 1 |
| I believe it is 700-800 more than in 1989.

700-800 more. Did you notice that because of the longer Doe season in
Rockingham county there's been more hunters than usual. I've been
living in Rock-County for 30 years and been hunting it for 22, never
seen so many hunters before.
Also, The deer killed from coyotes is small. This makes sence as I
believe the F&G are finding remains of adult deer. The question IMO is
how many fawns as we speak are being taken by yotes? The fawn take is
what will devastate the herd.
I doubt F&G could come up with a # as I don't think there would be much
left of a tender fawn after coyotes got a hold of it.
Any thoughts on this?

948.5 | population explosion | SALEM::MACGREGOR | | Mon Apr 22 1991 09:23 | 12 |
| I bet there were alot more than the 28 that they found. I would guess
that there were aty least double that they did not find. Up at my camp
there are alot of coyotes. I would bet they took a few that did not get
counted. Also I am from Rockingham county and from what I rememeber
during the first week the deer kill was way up from the previous year
so I don't really think the longer doe season had that myuch effect on
the overall numbers. The overall deer herd was way up in population
from previous years. And from what I have seen already the population
is up even more from last year. We had another relatively light winter
again. I would bet that this year would bring another record number of
deer taken.

948.6 | most since 1976 | SALEM::MACGREGOR | | Tue May 07 1991 13:34 | 4 |
| I was reading an article in the Sunday News the other day that said the
1990 Deer harvest was the most since 1976. It did not say just how many
in 1976 though. Does anyone know the record for N.H.?
