| Snow-shoe hare hunting in shorts with 6 inches of snow on the ground.
It was 62 degrees in Durham, NH today.
And I saw 4 nice deer to boot!

903.2 | warm breeze in February? | SALEM::MACGREGOR | | Tue Feb 05 1991 08:41 | 14 |
| I too was out bunny hunting on Feb. 3rd. I had a deer come within 20
feet of me but it was being chased by 3 dogs. The following day went to
the dog officer and told him about it and he said tell the Fish and
Game dept. about it, this was when we were getting my buddies dog from
the pound after being picked up for being loose. Even though it was
still in his town and the dogs were loose he didn't even want to hear
about it. It seems my buddies dog is a trash picker. I scared the dogs
off from the deer but I am still quite bummed out that people allow
dogs to roam like that. We usually have our tied up but a friend was
over and mistakenly let out ours. I am going to call F&G today.
It was quite warm the last few days and it felt strange feeling a warm
breeze in my face while rabbit hunting in February. I guess we broke
the record temp. yesterday.

I find it funny (not in the humorous way), That people "out here" get
upset at seeing dogs run free. When I was growing up in Nebraska we
didn't think it was right to keep a dog tied up or penned in, except in
town. I understand why people living in towns and citys would want the
dogs tied or penned, but not in the country.
I'm glad you just scared the dogs off instead of shooting them. Not all
"hunters" would have done the same. I've never run into the situation
and don't know how I would react but hopefully if I ever do, I'll do
the "right" thing.
Where were you bunny hunting? I haven't gotten out yet but would like
to when time permits.

| re .3 I was out bunny hunting in Deerfield N.H. Funny thing is that I
didn't cut one rabbit track until I got back to my truck at almost
dark. And running right behind my truck were the tracks. Maybe I'll
have better luck next this weekend. Anyways Shooting or doing something
about the dogs is the game wardens job. At least he ought to earn the
money that I have to pay for my license. There was a good 20 seconds or
so from the time I saw the deer until the dogs showed up. But I had
heard them running this deer for about an hour. Not too much snow on
the ground right now to slow the deer up. Anyways that deer should be
around come fall, I hope anyways.
Happy hunting-bret
