902.0. "Changing Hunting Seasons." by PERFCT::PAPPALARDO (A Pure Hunter) Thu Jan 31 1991 13:23

    In N.H., I think it's time for the hunting-seasons to be re-addressed.
    For example...

                     Bow-season today is mid-Sept thru Mid-Dec.
               Would like to change this to Mid-Oct thru Mid-Jan.

                     Muzzle-loader today(last-year) was 10/27 thru 11/3 or
                     so....
               Would like to see this the first Saturady in Nov. thru the
               2nd Wednesday in Nov.

                     Rifle/Shotgun is 1st Wednesday in Nov thru DEC,2nd
               Would like to see changed to 2nd Wednesday in Nov thru
               3rd Sunday in December.

               The Waterfowl seasons need change as well. The start and end
               to early.

               What's your thoughts?

    Rick, what's your reasons for wanting the deer seasons changed?

    As for the waterfowl seasons, I would like to see the 2nd half of the
    split season long and the first half shorter at least inland. I don't
    know about changing the dates for later in the year, though. The
    migrations depend so much on the weather. This year was extremely mild
    and slowed down a lot of the hunting and later seasons would have been
    better. On the otherhand, it was horribly cold last December and Great
    bay was froze solid before the waterfowl season ended.

    Mark,

902.2I think deer season is just fineSALEM::MACGREGORFri Feb 01 1991 11:1210
    Rick,
       I happen to like the way the deer hunting seasons are at the moment.
    They seem to coincide with the rut perfectly. As a matter of fact, if
    any thing about the deer hunting I would like to see the start of
    regular firearms season to start a week earlier. I don't hunt birds
    much anymore. I don't have any input on those seasons. I think the
    reason they pushed it back a week was because bird hunters were
    complaining about hunting with their dogs in the woods during deer
    season.

902.3Southern NH wanted to hunt on snowCHRLIE::HUSTONFri Feb 01 1991 12:2110

    The reported reason for pushing the NH deer season back a week was to
    give the southern NH hunters a better chance to hunt on snow. This
    what the F&G reported when they made the change.

    As for dogs, I don't buy that logic since the bird seasons all run
    until end of Dec anyways.

    The main reason for wanting the season pushed out is to hunt deer in
    colder drier weather rather than in warmer wet weather.

    As we all know the weather has certainly changed from 15 years ago and
    it seems the first two weeks of the season is to hot, hell, even the
    bugs are flying around..... I'm not so much interested in snow, though
    it's always welcomed, but more in colder-drier weather as I stated.

902.5push back deer season?PURDEY::JUCHTue Mar 12 1991 18:037
Have to say I'm not against pushing the deer season
back another week.

The Atlantic woodcock season is 45 days. Pushing the
deer season another week would give us the entire
time (can't start before 1 Oct.) Doodles seem to
migrate later and return earlier every year.
