| This probably won't sound as interesting in writing as it did in
person, but I will try anyway to get this started.
It was the last day of Mass pheasant season last year. My lab and I
were hunting with my partner and his springer in Gardner Mass. We
had hunted hard for 4 hours and were beat (we had also hunted the
previous two days). There had been very little shooting and we
were sad to see the season ending as we walked out.
As we walked out the 'road' we were walking on crossed over a little
gully, where the road had been built quite a ways up from the bottom.
When we got to that point, my lab suddenly stopped and obviously saw
something in the woods. She got very excited, then took off, hell-bent
through the woods. I thought she must have seen a deer and expected to
see it come out the other side. Instead, up comes a cock pheasant
after the dog got 75 yards or so deep into the woods!
How she saw the bird that deep into the brush is beyond me. If only
I had followed her. Taking that cock would have been a beautiful
way to end the season. As it was, we could only wave.....

| During the off season about 3 years ago I took my Brit., Aspen, fishing
with me. We had just gotten to the lake had the line setup with a fly and
bobber. The first cast went out and I was reeling it in. The whole
time Aspen was setting at my feet look out over the lake.
When the fly came in, I was going for another cast when Aspen took a
leep. Yep, she ate the fly. Got the hook stuck in her upper lip. I
tried to remove the hook myself but the barb was in too deep.
We had to go back into town to the Vet, it was Sunday Vet was closed,
so we went to another one that was open for emergencies only. They
put her to sleep and took the hook out. That was about $85 worth.
Should I title this "Fly eating dog" or "I caught a 35 pounder".
