730.3 | Not the Last Hunt | NRADM::GERMANO | | Mon Aug 20 1990 09:44 | 27 |
| We're all looking forward to opening day and the thoughts of finally
getting back into the forests where we all came from. This is without a
doubt anyone who hunts most satisfying time of year. What with the
memory's of past hunt's and the anticipation of what's over that next
ridge, we all get that tingeling in the pit of our stomach. But yet, a
cloud hovers over our bretheren in California. Mountain Lion hunting is
now a thing of the past. What next. I hear bowhunting and trapping are
being targeted for extinction, (unlike the Mountain Lion which
California still has huntable numbers of).
When we're out there in the woods, let's drink up mother natures
bountiful harvest and enjoy what we should believe is our God given
right to do. All the while, we need to bear in mind that forces out
there would and will do everything to stop us. So let's do all we can
to stop them through public opinion, sportsman's organizations and
elected public officals.
When your out there on a cold late fall morning and that yellow-orange
sun begins to peak over that ridge to your back and it's warm rays
rejuvinate you from the stiffness of the call cold. And your hands no
longer feel the cold from the blued steel but a warming rush of blood
bringing back the assurance of feeling we get from throwing the safety
off and then on again on the friend who's always do what you've asked
of it and never complained. Think about these things and ask what mere
mortal has the right to deny me what mother nature so thoughtfully
created for us. For our son's and daughter's sake, let's not let it
happen.

730.4 | 12 days to bear | LOONMT::MACGREGOR | | Mon Aug 20 1990 14:57 | 8 |
| It's a big 12 day wait fo Bear season here in N.H. I can't wait. Most
of the plans have been made with the exception of a couple of minor
things. The adrenalin will be flowing soon. A mere 2 weeks later and
bow season starts also. I have seen quite a few deer already this year
and a friend of mine has seen a few bear. So far so good. I'd like to
see everyone I know have good luck this year. Hopefully everybody fills
their tags. Good Luck to all!

730.5 | A hunting we will go etc. | OASS::SOBCZYNSKI_L | | Tue Aug 21 1990 08:37 | 25 |

Hi Randy,
I went to Buckarama this year, missed last year's, but did go the year
before that. Seems there was a world of difference between the two
shows, in so far as offerings. This years seemed to much smaller
participation wise and offered less in the way of hunting arms. However
there was plenty of other hunting accessories, like tree stands, clothing,
knives, scopes etc.. I should qualify that I attended the Friday session
so there could have been more available for Saturday and Sundays show.
Did you like the Hooters booth? I talked with some of the folks at the
show and they said that this years show was better than last years. Is
that true?
Over all it was good to get out and see a variety of 'things' under one
roof rather than having to run all over town to see the same.
Well if all works out I'll be hunting in South Carolina this year so
hunting season will be starting a month earlier for me.
Good safe hunting all,
Cheers

730.6 | BUCKARAMA '90 | ODIXIE::RHARRIS | | Tue Aug 21 1990 09:51 | 25 |
| Leonard,
I thought that the Buckarama this year was not as good as last year.
Last year, it was bigger, and much better deals. I have a second job
at a retail store, and the prices there are much better. The only deal
I saw was permanone was $4 a can. Everything else was high priced. AT
LEAST IT WAS AIR CONDITIONED THOUGH!!!!! Last year it wasn't. The
Hooter's girls were the highlight. Man!!! It was hard watching some
of those deer hunting videos when those hooter's girls were standing
right there bending over and all.
It is now 60 days for me. I am just about ready. A little last minute
shopping for me, and then it will be off to the woods and fix those
stands, and get the deer camp cleaned up for opening weekend. You
should see my cubicle here at the office, nothing but big buck pictures
on the wall, also a countdown on the calender of opening day.
I LIVE FOR OCTOBER 20th!!!!!!!
Good Hunting everyone..

730.7 | Where you at neighbor | OASS::SOBCZYNSKI_L | | Tue Aug 21 1990 14:43 | 15 |

Robert,
Well then it wasn't me and my tight pockets, I thought the prices were
somewhat out of line. At Buckarama three seasons ago, I purchased my
7400 and it was 50-75 dollars below the going price in the area. One of
the vendors said the same thing about the air conditioning, but it makes
me wonder about the Hooters in a non-airconditioned enviroment, oh well.
Where are you located? I'm at CSC/ALF first floor, pole Y23.
Talk with you later.
Cheers
Leonard

| Only 24 days till Colorado Muzzleloading starts. It's getting cold
up in the high country already and with all the rain we've had this
year, the elk will be bugling this year.
Last night Nova had a special on Elk, spring to fall behavior. I
really didn't need to see that.
The seasons are differnet but the wait is the same !
