Jeff,
I recall a note somewhere about this and I also tried to start up
a new one. I also would be interested in trading a hunting or
fishing trip in Colorado for one or the other outside of Colorado.
Heck, I would even offer to take one of our co-noters without a
trade. If there is interest in this "trading", I'll work with
Jeff or anyone else to set some basic guidelines to work out the
trades by. I would like to fish the Pacific Northwest for BIG
salmons, hunt pigs in the Southwest, or birds in Kansas. Is there
anyother interested traders out there?

Guess I need some help, please explain the details. There are several
conclusions that can be drawn from the 'trade hunt' phrase. Since I am
interested in hunting in other areas also.

707.5 | Nothing Guarenteed.. | CSC32::SCHIMPF | | Tue Jul 31 1990 10:43 | 18 |
| Re. 3
Details should be worked out between the two parties...Say, for example
that I take you on an Elk/Deer hunt. We would have details worked out
to the "T"....IE...Your expenses to get here are yours, help with
cost of food/pay for your liciences...We hunt....No Guide fees...No
other BS...Hassels,etc...Essentially you are able in some country that
you've dreamed about without all the other added expense...Just a reg.
hunting type trip, with the excption of paying $35.00 for gas; you
might pay $100.00.....Nothing is promised, guarenteed maybe a good time
new friends..Whatever....Then we swap, I go to whereever you are and
fish, or hunt..Or whatever is agreed upon..
I try to keep things as simple as possible...Its the only way to
operate...Especially if ya simple minded....

| Hmmmm....
I want to go hunting with Gordon Roberts for the following reasons:
-I'd like to experience what it's like when someone brings and elk
into camp!
-I'd like to find out if one gets even more jealous over someone's
elk than over someone's deer.
-If Gordon drops his elk early enough, maybe he'll tell me where to
go so I can get a shot.
-I'd like to see for myself one of these giant creatures dropped
with a little .270 round.
What do you want to trade? A chance to teach me how to shoot a
Roosevelt Elk?
A salmon trip to the Penninsula?

707.7 | Some more ideas | CSC32::G_ROBERTS | | Tue Jul 31 1990 13:28 | 63 |
| I have been vax mailing with Stan Keyes on this topic. In addition to
the things Jeff has entered, Stan had the following and I will add mine.
It would be a good idea to get as much input on this from everyone as
we can to help develop some basic guidelines. Granted they may not all
apply or the parties involved may want to make some modifications to some.
I think that some basic guidelines sould be defined so that there are not
any misunderstandings or problems. Once these are defined we can go for it.
Stan's input:
Let me now add what I feel should be covered.
o What you have to Swap:
----------------------
o State, Location, etc.
o What you will be either hunting or fishing for?
o Any Fee's Licence, Gas, Tolls, Guide????, etc, etc.
o Transporation to and from Airport?
o Misc
Gear, extras, etc, etc.
o Phone number of home residence to discuss swap?
o AND!!! a summary of your hunting background, experence.
My input:
o Where to stay when first arriving in town and before leaving for home
Hotel/motel, or guest's home
o Camp accommodations
o special applications required
in Colo we have to submit applications for limited licenses or antelope
permits in June
o Provide the game regs in advance for hunt interested in
States vary requirements for hunter ed, blaze orange, min rifle caliber,
slugs or buck shot, point restrictions, bag, hunt time, etc.
These and other mentioned in other notes could be combined and edited to
something that would agreeable to *most* all, with changes on a as needed
basis.
I think this will be a great way to get to hunt/fish places that might
not be reasonable if one had to go with a licensed guide. Granted as
Jeff said, no gurantees to bag the game your after, but I think the
parties involved should be able to at least get one another into an area
that would at least give one a chance to have a enjoyable if not successful
hunting or fishing experience.
Lets keep this going and hopefully it will work.

Thanks for the compliment.

Yes, people do.

If you go with me, I'll make sure your odds are just as good as
mine.

Hard to believe isn't it?

How big are those elk anyway? I've been told their bigger than
the Rocky Mtn. elk.

Now we're talkin'.
/brett,
I didn't draw the limited license this year that I applied for.
That area has been very good to me. My regular hunting partners
and I are going to try a new area that we were given good directions
and instructions into. It is in the Flat Tops Wilderness Area.
There area left over cow permits that we are applying for, but
will settle for a bull tag. We are planning a couple of scouting
trips the month before season to get the lay of the land and plan
our hunt. My neck is swellin' and I've been rubbin' my head against
my terminal thinkin' about the things this guy told us about the area.
We got a couple of guys from DEC here joining us this year, but there's
room for another.
As far as a trade, I'll put you up for a deer/elk hunt for a salmon
fishin' trip. If your interested in antelope, we can try for a
license next year. I've got a hot spot to hunt them when I draw a
tag. All I got this year was preference points across the board.

Did I hear Flat-Tops ? Where abouts are you headed, that where I

Come see me or I'll see you. We can take this offline. :-)
I got preference point again for deer and antelope. Maybe next year.

707.11 | Hmmm what have I got that *you* want??? | FSHQA2::EPETERSEN | | Thu Aug 02 1990 14:09 | 12 |
| This sounds like a great idea, BUT, living in Mass without a gun
dog, large boat, or a cabin up north, what else could I offer? I could
take someone Grouse/Partridge/Rabbit hunting (w/o a dog) up north the first
couple weeks of Oct., but then again I rent a cabin so the money
saved isn't all that terrific, I just know where to get a few birds and
trout and wabbits.....
Any suggestions for another type of swap? I'd be interested in wild
pig hunting, or a good southern or midwest bird hunt.

707.12 | we can be flexable here | CSC32::G_ROBERTS | | Thu Aug 02 1990 17:28 | 19 |
| RE: <<< Note 707.11 by FSHQA2::EPETERSEN >>>
-< Hmmm what have I got that *you* want??? >-
Erik,
Good point. Its not hard coded that we must trade a hunting or fishing
trip. I have a friend in Kansas that puts me up during pheasant
season and I take him and his wife skiing out here in Colo. The times
I've been to Mass for training or whatever have been quite boring in
that I know very few folks there. Just being able to share a couple
of brews and stories with someone might be enough for some folks.
Maybe you could take a land locked sportsperson on the ocean, or maybe
show them the town. See what I mean? It may even workout that there
is not even a "trade", you want to go hunting or fishing where one
of us lives and we have no desire to visit your area. So what? You
gain an experience and a friend, and someone else gains a friend.

I heartidly agree too .12; If you would like to come out or try to set
up a hunt...Go for it!! You..can always swap the best thing ya got..
Your friendship...Come on out..(BTW: I'm in Colo.) ya probably figured
that out..

707.14 | My knowledge is your Treasure! | FSHQA2::EPETERSEN | | Fri Aug 03 1990 10:37 | 18 |
| HI again,
I may have sounded on the "down" side not having any sporting offerings
other than my knowledge of the New England woods and waters. I didn't
mean to come off that way and certainly would love to show someone "the
town" or take someone skiing, whatever... I agree there's always
something you can show someone about your area/life/etc.
I was just at the Springs CSC for a day and saw over 14 deer out at the
Air Force Academy grounds, I actually got within 4 feet or so of a doe,
got some great pictures. I couldn't believe all the deer I saw in 1/2
an hour!!!!
I'll keep on reading this note because I'd definitely be interested in
a swap of my knowledge and experience for someone else's, can't beat
that!!!!

| Hey, this was a really great idea !! I'd be willing to swap a fishing

good duck or goose hunting trip in Mass. I have a lab, we can shoot & he
can work !

showing me around. Granted we didn't catch many fish, but
just getting out on the lake is enough for me. I got to
meet Rob and Bruce, and a couple others, share stories and
photos. You guys have some have some beautiful country to
hunt and fish.
Good luck to you guys deer hunting this year. If any of you
get out this way, let me know, I'll show you some mountains ;-).

re .20
No problem Gordon...like I said, wish we had calmer seas, and caught
more fish...come back out early March, I could use someone to help me run
down tip ups with monster pike on the other end!!! Or the end of May
when the pre-spawn Largemouths are in the bay by the hundreds...it gets
tough out there the end of July...but you've already heard me say that
a few times. ;^)
About the beautiful country and the "hills", wasn't it you that said
(when we were hiking down to that brook), "You guys don't really hunt in
this timber do you?" I'd love to come out to the real mountans, the
only problem is I can't hit the broadside of a barn over 100 yds, guess
I'd have to learn how to shoot. I wish all problems were that much fun
to solve!!
take care and good luck this fall,
Kevin
