Great move, coming to Ga. last strong hold of America Independence.
1. Buying a hand gun here, walk in the store lay your money on the
counter, fill out the required federal form, and take it away.
2. Your car is considered an extension of your home, handguns loaded,
may be kept either in the glove box or on the seat. If stoped by law
enforcement officer inform them that you have a loaded weapon in the
car/vechicle.
3. Long guns, may be kept on the gun rack of a pickup.
4. Concealed weapons permit, attainable with restrictions.
There isn't much more, it is very simple and straight forward. The Ga.
constitution states our entitlement to gun ownership, changes can only
be made by legislative action, it is not a county function. We have
just gone through a situation with DeKalb. They attemtpted to restrict
the sale of auto-military/assualt weapons, it was overturned.
I am in class this morning, will contact you later today via DTN.
Cheers
Leonard

| Isn't there a law in Kenesaw (sp?) GA that states every house must
have a firearm for home defense and the people inside must know how
to use it?
And isn't this the lowest crime rate area in the U.S.?

Thought you might be interested in these resolutions passed by the Ga
Legislature this past session.
HR 626 Promotion of marksmanship programs in Georgis high schools.
This resolution acknowledged the bvalue of the shooting sports in
high schools. "NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the high schools of Georgia are encouraged,
wherever possible, to create and promote marksmanship programs in
small-bore rifle, air rifle. air pistol, and other Olympic disciplines."
HR 857 Firearms safety program for elementary school children. A
Resolution that was considered by many as a true Child Protection
measure. "NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES that this body finds the introduction of the
National Rifle Association "EDDIE EAGLE" firearms safety program to be
of significant value in protecting children against accidents and
encourages the initiation of such program in all elementary schools in
Georgia."
HR 960 Firearms regulation, preemption resolution
"NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
that no county government or municipal corporation is authorized under
the Georgia Constitution to infring the right of the people to keep and
bear arms."
the purpose of this resolutation was to reiterate the Georgia
Constitution"s position that only the Georgia General Assembly has
the authority to regulate frearms. This was in response to several
cities and counties that had recently passed "assult Rifle" bans,
in direct violation of the Georgia Constitution.

Ga affiliate of the NRA.

| Carl,
Thanks for the added information. It's a shame that
the rest of the states are not as level headed when it comes
to understanding individual freedoms/rights. I was also impressed
with HR 626, and especially HR 857.

No, if only the job comes thru.......
Later and thanks,

| How about some info on the hunting in GA. I have a friend that is
soon to be moving down there. He loves waterfowl and deer hunting.
Will he be able to satisfy his cravings?

640.7 | GOOD HUNTING HERE | CSCOA5::LIBS_C | | Tue Apr 17 1990 10:22 | 10 |
| We have good deer hunting here. Last year had a 5 deer limit, two must
be taken during archery season and max of three during firearms season.
During firearns season, at least one has to be antlerless.
There is a small waterfoul hunting opertunity here, however, Ga is not
on the flyway. Most of the waterfoul have been introduced and are year
round resident flocks.

Hey Carl
Turkeys have been taken by the water, does that qualify as waterfowl?
ref -2, there are quite a few national forest and wild life management
areas, and as Carl said hunting is good in this neck of the woods. The
deer however are somewhat smaller than Mich, Minn, Neb. etc, northern
areas. But they (deer) are fair size.

| As a maybe future resident ( if the job offer comes thru ) I've
done some reshearch on Ga. deer. From what I saw, the harvest in
1988 was around 300,000 +, with a total herd size of 1.3 million.

Jeff,
Also, Buckmaster magazine does an article on each
state each month. The August '89 issue I have covers Ga. If
you send me you MAIL stop I'll XEROX the article and ship
it via the Pony Express to you.

| Time to reactivate this note....
I've been hunting in Alabama for the last 6-7 years. I've lived here in Georgia
for the last year or two. I'm about ready to stop driving down to LA (Lower
Alabama) and would like to do some hunting here in Northern GA.
Anybody got information about leases, public land, hunting clubs, etc?
thanks,
