609.0. "Just gotta brag" by CLUSTA::STORM () Mon Feb 12 1990 15:34

Well, I returned from my 8 week parental leave on the 1st of the
year and I'm just now getting back to this notes conference.

I was extremely fortunate to experience 2 miracles within a few
weeks of each other. The first, of course, was the birth of my
    son. As for the 2nd......

My lab and I were hunting along a river late in the season. As soon
as we walked up to the river a flock of about 20 ducks flushed from
the opposite side of a small island about 25 or 30 yards away. At
first I thought they were blacks. I fired quickly and dropped one
cleanly. Then I spotted a drake mallard. I fired and he too folded
cleanly. Then I saw one last drake and took a shot - yup, he folded
as well! The first triple in my life!!!!

My lab didn't see them fall, but quickly found and retrieved a hen
and a drake from the other side of the island. I sent her to look
for the 2nd drake and she returned quickly with a black duck. Now
I was REALLY confused since I was sure it was a drake I shot. I then
realize the black was too stiff for a fresh kill and must have been
shot the day before. I sent the dog back and she eventually found
    the 2nd drake.

Of course, I wouldn't be completely honest if I didn't tell you that
I haven't hit the broad side of a barn since then.....
