607.0. "Boston/Springfield Sportsmen's Shows" by WFOVX5::KEYWORTH () Fri Feb 09 1990 08:40

I found this add in one of my fishing newspapers.

The Springfield Sportsmen's Show, February 22nd to 25th, and the
Boston Sportsmen's Show, March 1st to 4th, are not only the northeast's
largest one-two punch in pure hunting and fishing shows, they are
also the most colorful and active.

The Springfield and Boston Shows, this year have added mountain
man villages peopled by costumed sportsmen, and a large pool where
water dogs will give retrieving demonstrations and stand-up fisherman
with tuna rigs will try to land 200 pound "scuba" fish.

The new action and color additions will be joined by the old favorites
such as the trappers' hut, an archery range for "hands-on" instruction
and competition, the trout pond for the kids, pools for fly, bait
and spin casting demonstrations by experts, live fish and game
displays, an air gun range for kids' instruction and friendly
    competition, and much more.

The largest collection of gun manufacturers in the northeast gather
at the Springfield and Boston shows as do fishing tackle manufacturers,
    guides, outfitters, chartercaptains and such.

As a result, more than 578 booths are offered at the Springfield
show and more than 400 in Boston.

The Springfield Show is at the Eastern States Exposition, home of
the "Big E," in West Springfield, Massachusetts and located at the
intersection of the Mass Pike and I-91 (sort of). There is free
parking for more than 9,000 vehicles adjacent to the show building.

The Boston Show at the Bayside Exposition Center also has adjacent
parking and can be reached off Route 93 without having to go through
    Boston proper.

There will be seminars by experts in ever field: fly fishing, antler
rattling, turkey and waterfowl calling, offshore and inshore fishing,
all the major lakes and streams in the northeast and more.

For deer hunters, there will be Mister Whitetail Larry Benoit, The
Bowhunter Dick Scorzafava, antler rattler Charlie Burlerson, lure
expert Glenn Grant, the Maine Man.

Leading a parade of fly fishing experts will be author Al Raychard,
who has fished all the ocean and freshwater hotspots of the continent,
line world record holder Fran Verdolive, Jim Krul of English Anglers,
Boston's own Jack Gartside, "Iron" Mike Renaldo, the man with the
"feather" touch; and others who will teach what catching trout is
    all about.

The saltwater scene will be well covered by Capt. Bill Brown, Capt.
Tom Depersia, Capt. Bob Andrews and Charley Soares.

If it is bass you are interested in, Mister Bass, Larry Davidson
and Mister Scum Frog, Wayne Ingraham will talk on tournament fishing
    secrets and crank baits.

Mann's Bait, Eagle Claw and Boston Herald will sponsor a bassing
roundtable seminar featuring top bass fishermen Ted Ancher, Mike
Yellick, Arnie Korenblum and Bob Jones.

All the other things that go with the outdoors will also be offered:
outdoor art, electronics, guides, conservation, New England and
New York divisions of Fisheries and Wildlife, leatherwork, and all
at special show prices and at one stop shopping.

    Springfield show hours are: Feb. 22, 3 to 10PM; Feb. 23, 1 to 10PM;
    Feb. 24, 9:30AM to 9:00PM; Feb. 25, 10AM to 6:00PM.

    Boston hours are March 1 and 2, 3:30 to 10PM; March 3, 10AM to 9PM;
    March 4, 10AM to 6PM.

Persons interested in purchasing special priced tickets for their
club or business can write OSEG, Box 860, Chicopee, Ma 01014.

I think the Springfield show is around $6.00. There are usually
coupons on the paper the week before the show and I think DEC has
them or can get tickets at a reduced price (like $4.00) if you make
a request through your personel department.
