595.0. "Mass. Anti's Lawsuit announced!" by EUCLID::PETERSON (GOVERNMENT is a VERB!) Mon Jan 22 1990 09:15

    	On WRKO this morning, I heard that an animal rights group is
    planning a lawsuit in Mass. to make the board that oversees wildlife
    management in the state, to put animal rights acivists on that board.

    	They are also planning a press conference for later today. 1/22/90

    	In the last two weeks, I have seen/heard three different shows
    featuring animal rights activists. Is this year going to be the one
    that a real push is put on to modify hunting/trapping laws??

    	Don't be suprised!

595.2Let's Go After the Do-Gooders Legally!LESNET::JUCHWed Jan 31 1990 16:2223
    One tactic that should be used, when lawsuits are filed by various
    "( )-rights" or other anti groups, is to look at their tax status.
    The NRA itself does no political lobbying, it is the NRA-ILA that
    does, hence the NRA is a non-profit organization and contributions
    to them are tax-deductible, but not to the ILA.

    If you notice one group or another lobbying, sponsoring lawsuits,
    or engaging in other political activity ask your state Attorney General
    to investigate and challenge their tax-free status.

    Also, you
    may be able to get the AG to investigate these groups who interfere
    with legal hunts, etc., under the new anti-racketeering laws. Theirs
    is certainly a conspiracy across interstate lines. It's used against
    the anti-choice people successfully.

    It would be interesting to sue Time and the various TV networks
    for equal time under the provisions of the equal time/equal access
    rules that the FCC has laid down for political campaigns. Challenge
    them too when their FCC license comes up!

    	The equal time/equal access laws were repealed about two years ago.
    Why do you think the media can get away with so much editorializing
    disguised as news, without rebuttal?

    Here in Springfield, Mass. a local fur dealer is suing
    an animal-rights group for $10 million, for interfering
    with his customers and business. I love it !
