@ Maine may cut 4 weeks off Bear season in 1990.

@ Maine Moose hunters ended the 89 season with an official kill of 922,
down just 1 percentage point from 1988 of 932. The largest taken was
970lbs dressed. It was an adult Bull shot in Long A Township, south
      of Millinocket in Penobscot County.

@ Preliminary harvest figures of 1,740 deer taken by Mass hunters on
the 1st day of the shotgun opener are the highest ever recorded in
the state. The total is 683 higher than the 1988 opener

@ New Hampshire is also up. As of Nov-20th, 5,860 deer had been taken,
more than 500 than last years total on this same date. Both numbers
include the Bow, muzzleloader seasons. Biologists expect the final
kill to surpass last years fall total of 6,125.

@ This just in from Lyngdal, Norway- A dog shot his master while
hunting rabbits in southern Norway. The 50 year old hunter suffered
minor injuries when he was hit by pellets from a shotgun accidently
fired by his dog. The hunter and his companions had laid their guns
down when they stopped to rest during the hunt. The dog was near the
guns and accidently hit the trigger. The Sheriff would not name the
hunter saying it would be to embarrassing for a hunter to get shot by
his dog..... LESSON HERE:: MAKE SURE THE SAFE IS ON!!!

If any-one has other news from local rags, put it here. I'm sure it
will be of interest to everyone.

More appropriately, be sure that your gun (pistol, rifle, handgun
or what have you) is UNLOADED and the action open before you put it
    down and leave it unattended.

    Accidents don't just happen.

Dog shoots man cropped up recently here (Britain). A man put down his shotgun,
leaning it against a haystack. The dog knocked it over and it shot the man's
teenage son in the leg.

Doctor's fear that the leg may have to be amputated.

572.4Game Warden shot?VLNVAX::DMICHAELSONThu Feb 15 1990 15:1312
I didnt know where to post this, and I didnt want to start a new note.
It is a news brief, all be it tragic.

I heard that a game warden at the Mass Div. of Fisheries and Wildlife
was shot and killed. I believe it happened at the field headquarters in
Westborough, MA at about 11:00 AM today.

If it was an accident someone is in deep sh*t. If it was murder, What in
    the world is going on!!!

I missed the guy's name that was killed. Apparently he was shot by a
co-worker at the field HQ in Westboro. The rest of the details are very
    sketchy.

The State Police had arrested 3 men (one of which was shot and wounded)
about the same time as the shooting at the Field HQ. At first it was
thought that the incidents were related but they are not.

My sympathy goes out to the killed man's family...

Here are the details the best I know them. At aprox. 7:45 Thurseday
morning Pete Otis was shot and killed at the Westboro field
Headquarters. A co-worker has been arrested and charged with the
murder. Soon after the shooting three individuals from Westboro
stole a car and were chased down Rt.135 where they ditched the car
and ran into the WMA. They were chased by a multitude of police
officers who thought that they were involved in the earlier shooting.
Shots were fired when they refused to stop. One individual was
hit in the leg. It was later determined that the shooting of Otis
and the stolen car chase were unrelated incidences. Moral of the
story: Don't steal a car on the day of a murder.
