560.0. "humiliated by deer again" by FSCORE::KAYE (He who dies with the most toys is dead) Mon Nov 27 1989 12:52
I was out yesterday hunting with my bow & arrow and was humiliated by
the deer yet once again. My buddy and i got in the area just before
dawn and were sitting on our watches. About 7:30 i decided to do a
short walk, and as i turned i caught my other huntin buddy's son
sneaking down the fenceline i was on (i haven't seen them out for the
past 3 weeks). He said he was going down the fenceline and pick a
spot, so i backtracked & was coming down the opposite edge of this
wooded area. I was just moving into the area again when i heard a deer
snort about 50m out in front of me. I quickly grabbed an arrow and
snapped it on the string, and as i reached for my for my mechanical
release i heard them coming. Before i could get the release out of my
pocket 3 does ran right by me (i could have petted each 1 on the way
by). The 4th doe passed about 15' to my left and as i got my bow to
full draw, it went behind a cedar and walked stright away from me. I
only got close enough to hear them from then on. I wonder now if i
should have just jumped on 1 as it passed by (i have a doe tag, so
they were legal). Somehow, wrestling 1 to the ground just seem like a
good idea...
mark (4 more days to go)

| No offense, but you'd be safer if you jumped Mike Tyson and
wrestled him to the ground. Them deer can do some damage when
they have to, and we humans are so easily damaged. :^)
