528.0. "Vehicle season opens with with a bang" by SALEM::MACGREGOR (I'm the NRA/GONH/NAHC) Mon Oct 30 1989 09:08

Congratulations go to Mike Gilon for getting the first ever vehicle
permit and filling his tag. It seems that Mr. Gilon was on a stand
near rte. 3 when this 1988 Nissan came out into the open and blew
his mating call, which was a horn. Mr. Gilon took one shot with
a .308 caliber rifle and stopped it dead in it's tracks. The shot
went through the hood and into the vitals. My guess is it weighed
in at about 2800 lbs., gutted out that is. I hope he has it hung
right so as to get out all that oil out so it won't be a oily gamey
taste. I bet it was a tough drag. Mike has said he can't wait for
the mount to come back from the taxi service, I mean taxidermist.
I am sure it will look nice in his garage. Right after the kill
Mike was heard saying "It feels great, and these vehicles had better
    not F#@K with me!"

Mike was sighting in his rifle from the top of the truck this past
weekend. The truck was parked at an angle and when he took a shot
he thought he had hit the paper. But after careful examination they
found a bullet hole in the hood of the truck. But he made the mistake
of telling a couple of friends and you know the rest.................

Yep! It was a nice one alright. Pictures were taken and even a video
of the after kill was done after mike arrived back at the camp.
I heard that Mike obtained a nice piece of maple to mount the hood
ornament on. He didn't want the whole thing mounted, something about
    "damn rice burners" was said.

Now, if I can get the negative of Mike posing next to his kill holding
his rifle, I might be able to talk the local Derry Newspaper to
run the picture on the front page.

A friend of mine had a similar experience with a new truck which
still had on the ten day tags. He mounted a scope on a new gun and
headed out to the pit to sight it in. He shot off the back body instead
of the hood. He fired two rounds and walked down to the target only to
find no holes. The target was at a slight down grade away from the
truck. As he was walking back and got up to the truck he noticed two
huge holes in the body. I tell you once the bullets went through the
first wall and expanded it came out real nicely through the second
    wall.
