| 516.1 | The Anti's Know Nothing About Management | PCCAD1::RICHARDJ | Bluegrass,Music Aged to Perfection | Wed Oct 18 1989 13:06 | 13 |
| | Yeah, just like the anti's got their way down in Ipswich's
Crane Reservation. My wife was talking to the head of the
Mass. F & G department last spring. He said that the deer heard
is starving so badly right now that the residents, (some of the
original ones that protested hunting in the area) now want to be
able to shoot the deer themselves, that crawl into their
back yards, out of season. What a waste ! Now that the deer are so bad
off physically, they'll just be killed and buried. The anti's say
that the problem is that there are no predator animals, to thin out
the heard. The problem with the anti hunters, is that they won't
get it through their thick skulls that man is a predator.

| | Suggest to the anti's that another solution is to import
mountain lions and bears. See how quickly they tell you that
they don't want these dangerous animals so close to their homes.

By the way, they don't target developers because:

    	1. They don't really understand the problem.

    	2. They don't care about REAL solutions.

    	3. Developers are organized, have money, and can fight back
    	   effectively.

Plus, the developers get those big bucks..oops dollars
from the same people that don't like hunters, but want
a house in the woods to "be close to Mother Nature".

There used to be a few deer, and a pair of fox
that would come through the back yard. That is till
"yuppieville" went up out in back. Now all I see is
    		crows.

| | There was a short article in the Union Leader a few weeks ago about
the anti-Moose'ers, and it said that on top of wanting to stop the
killing of the poor Moose, they also wanted the Fish and Game
Dept. to sponsor defensive driving courses for people up north,
as that's were the majority of the Moose-Car accident occur.

These people continue to amaze me. How in H*** do they expect someone
to learn how to avoid a 800 + Moose that steps/runs out in front
    of your vehicle.

| | LET ONE OF THE ANTI'S HIT A MOOSE AND THEN ASK EM IF A DEFENSIVE
    DRIVING CLASS WOULD OF HELPED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know what its like to hit a deer I wouldnt want to try avoiding
a confrontation with a 800-1000 lb moose, hell trying to avoid a
    deer is hard enough.

I wish the antis would wake up and listen to some serious
environmental issues we have, one being that a moose can eat
vegitation upto and exceding 8 feet and a deer can only eat up to
around 4-5 feet and rabbits are even worse off, so if they get the
moose hunt stopped after we have 5-10 years of the moose pop. growing
like it has been that is all we will have in this state and any
piece of woods that you go into wont have any vegitation up to 8
feet I mean an animal doesnt get to be 800-1000 lbs by being on
a stict deit.. I think its about time the antis come back to reality
and listen to the people that have college degrees in the environmental
field and who study the animals everyday and spend numerous unpaid
hours in time to help them in there jobs.
And as far as the moose only being in the north country is B.S.
yesterday I saw a moose not 3 miles from Concord, and last week
we had one walk through the woods behind our building here in
Contoocook, that could mean the moose is trying to find a better
home than the north country for food and ease of mobility.
Man did the antis have a field day with the hunting accident
last weekend, its a real shame that we all lost a hunting companion
because of someone carelessly shooting, I have been hunting for
14 years and have seen in excess of 15,000 deer in the wild and
I have never seen a deer get up on its hind legs and walk like
a human, IM NOT INSINUATING ANY OF YOU GUYS WOULD BUT PLEASE STESS
TO FELLOW HUNTING COMPANIONS TO REALLY MAKE SURE OF THE ANIMAL BEFORE
YOU SHOOT, once the trigger is pulled there is no saying whoooaaa.

                                         GOOD LUCK HUNTING TO ALL

15,000 deer seen in fourteen years of hunting? That's 1071 deer
    seen each year!!

Ah, could you tell me your secret, and do you need a hunting partner?

    re NH Moose hunt attacked

Yesterday in the mail I got a Nashua Broadcaster, a free paper that
    comes everyonce in awhile.

Well in the editorial section there was a story written by a member of
the save the moose or what ever they are called.

At first I thought maybe this was in support of the hunt. It started
off saying there are to many moose/car collisions and the moose wins.
Other states have effectively reduced this (they all also had hunting
season on moose). From the way I read it she was saying there are to
many moose, then she turned around and said we don't have enough for
a hunt and hunting is not the way to reduce them.

She tried making some points about the moose survey not being
completed. And that the fish & game turned down $6000 from someone
(anyone know about this), she insinuated that the only reason the
survey is not finished was because the results would not support
    a hunt.

I had a hard time figuring out what she was saying alot of the time,
she was all over the place.

LIVE IN PA. if you want to see deer go down there heck we probably
saw 500-750 deer in a week including spotting.

I would love to move back there but we are going back for a
bonus deer since we got drawn in the lottery.

500-750 deer in a week!!! That is wild!! I live and hunt up here
in Ontario Canada and I can only say that I see about 15-20 deer
a year. What is the area like down there, is it all fields with
little chunks of bush? Up here it's all bush with little chunks of
field so we don't get to see near as many deer as you. It must be
easy hunting down there with all those deer standing there waiting
to have a tag put on them. :*) :*)

I heard on the radio today that over the weekend a moose was shot
in Ma. in the median strip of rte 128 in the Dedham/Westford area.
Aparently it was wandering around for quite a while and the State
and the wildlife police decided to take it out before someone
    	colided with it.
They seem to be flourishing quite well. Next stop is
    	overcrowding and disease.

I've been asked to put a note in here about the NH Moose hunt,
from a member of the NH Wildlife Federation.

It seems that in the next session of the NH State Legislature,
the annual Moose hunt will be brought up by NH Fish and Game. They
want to continue the hunt but change the dates and possibly expand
the number of days. Well...apparrently the Director of F&G is receiving
alot of negative mail from anti hunt advocates. The Director would
like to go to these Moose hearings with more pro hunt letters than
    anti letters.

This is where YOU come in. If you're from NH and want to see the
hunt continue, take the time to write a simple letter stating you
want to see it continue. The address is:

                           Director
                           NH Fish and Game Dept.
                           2 Hazen Drive
                           Concord, NH 03301

| 516.15 | anti's on the news again | CSCOA5::HUFFSTETLER |  | Wed Nov 15 1989 09:20 | 29 |
| | Did anyone else see the CBS evening news last night? The last story
was one where anti's were in the woods harassing hunters. From the
patches on the G&F guys and the police it looked like it was in
Virginia.
Maybe if we could get the anti's to do something useful, like roam the
boundaries around wildlife mgmt areas looking for poachers (not
roaming the woods disturbing hunters), we could turn them into quasi-
allies.
The arguments the anti's were using were ridiculous - "Your in
camoflage, do you feel you're at war with the animals?" "We're here
to stop the painful killing of these wild animals." "We're here to
take away these bloody playgrounds blah blah blah..." I guess it's ok
to "exploit" animals that they say are ok to exploit (cows and
chickens as an example). Maybe that's an idea, too... Tell them we
know of a guy who takes animals from the wild, pens them up in little
cages, and then painfully kills them to sell for PROFIT! Ol' Frank
Perdue is in for it now! ;^(
The other thing I didn't like about the journalistic side is that they
(reporters) only seem to interview Big Bubba Bogwater from Goatpiss,
Arkansas who has an IQ of belly button lint. If they ever talked to
someone who sounded intelligent we could fight these ridiculous anti's
more effectively.
Sorry for rambling but thinking about it again got me pissed!
Scott
