| In the western states one has to apply ahead of ime where a state
like Maine or N.H. you just go and get an out of state license from
an authorized dealer. I would think alot would depend on the lottery
alot of the western states have.

| In this type of situation. I would mainly be concerned with one
thing. Equal hunting grounds. Lets say you have a place in Maine
that is great for bear and deer, and you trade for a place in Co.
that is supposed to be great for elk. Then the day you arrive you
find that you are hunting on a biological desert. I would not be
pleased. Who knows it may be the reverse.

I also read about this awhile ago. AS for licenses you always pay for
your own license. The person who is the "host" acts kind of like a
guide for the visitor. The roles reverse when you trade locations.
For example if I went to Colorado (ignoring licensing pblms) I pay to
get there, I pay for licenses, I pay for butchering, shipping etc. You
act as my "guide" for the week, you don't exclusively guide it is more
along the lines of you taking a friend hunting who has never been in
the area.
The next year (or whenever) you come to me in NH, you pay license,
travel etc. I "guide" you. There is no guarentee of game or even
seeing any game.
To do this you obviously must trust the person you are trading with.
You must talk to them enough to believe that you are not going to a
"biological desert". If you do, then there is nothing you can do
except get mad.
You don't need to trade hunting trips. I believe the article I read
had the author "hosting" a fishing trip, he got a quail hunt on a
farm somewhere in the south. He did mention, if done right, it is
a great way to make friends all over the country.

| re 497.4
I gree with your response to this and as I stated there would be
issues to work out such as:
o Recent year stat's on the game harvested in certain counties of
a given state.
o The Individuals invited pays their own freight, the Host guides
or possibly gives room and board if this is available if not,
the host can give information pertaining to where we could get
this need.
o It's also understood that some states go with lottery systems
and that these lotteries occur sometimwe in the Feb - March
timeframe. Those who want to swap off will have to communicate
this to each other and possibly coordinate this.
o As for ending up in a dersert, well I have heard that some outfitters
you hire this can very well occur. One of my reasons for thinking
about this is maybe by dealing this way we can confine and elimate
this concern.

Colorado does have several drawings (cow elk, muzzle loaders,
etc.) but you can also just walk up and purchase most
licenses (unlimited elk, deer, etc.) over the counter.
Yep, a week's worth of quail hunting back in ol' Louisiana
would do the trick 'bout now. Too bad I gotta spend my time
in the Rockys killing elk next week. Bummer. ;-)

I feel bad for you, but someone has to do it :-)
Want to trade a week of slaying rampant Elk for a week of sleeping
in the white mtns, we never see deer, but we catch up on the sleep :-)
Good luck

| Good Idea Brett! I'll Start!
Will trade for next year 1 week of whitetail hunting in a top zone
in the state of Maine that is well known for producing 200lb+ buck,
has a high harvest year after year, has good Black bear and Partrige
hunting also!.
What's included - Room, Board, and hunting with people that know
the area.
You pay all expences on behalf of yourself and
anyone else that would be agreed upon.
What I would like is a good location for Mule Deer and Antelope
and who would accompany me would be agreed upon also.
We would pay all of our own expences.
Who's Interested!!!!????
