| | The Maine deer hunting laws restrict you to 5 rounds unless
you are licensed to carry concealed.

| | Barry, you just need to apply via the Maine State Police for a permit
to carry concealed. If you are not carrying concealed you don't need a
permit. BTW, to apply just contact the state police and they will send
you a packet of forms. You just need pictures, about $45, the forms
and copies of any valid permits to carry you hold in other states.

I found them to be very cooperative and helpful. Whole process took
    about 4 weeks.

| | Tom, if I'm carrying in a holster while hunting, is that considered
    concealed?
That is all I'm really interested in doing.

| | If the holster is visible its not considered concealed.

A couple of friends and myself are planning a fishing trip into
some remote parts of Maine and I was wondering what the law is
concerning carrying while fishing. I can comfortably carry my
sidearm in a shoulder holster so leaving it unconcealed is no
problem. Also if we decide to stop in a restaraunt and I leave the gun
in the car could I get into trouble like here in Mass?
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.....

| | You can carry it any where except on school property.
Concealed if you have a valid Maine permit, otherwise it must be in
sight. You can leave it your car but I wouldn't leave it in view for
someone to take. I would stick it under the seat and break the law of
    concealing it.

I was reading some changes in the Maine Sportsman this weekend
with one change being the distance of hunting from a paved highway.
The new law stated that you must be 10' from the highway or out of the
right of way on a controlled access highway (Interstate).
