WE didn't do very well in the Wells/Pawlet area this spring. I
think it was more just us though, there were plenty of birds, just
no good opportunities. They would come in to " just out of range"
    and that was it...

This fall they're in big trouble tho... Plenty of time, snow, and
plenty of room in the freezer!

Where are all the turkey hunters ? Well I for one have the first
two weeks of May off and will be spending my mornings in the woods
of Vt. and N.H.. I took a ride to Vermont this past Saturday (in
the rain) to look for turkeys. I spotted 12 birds in different
fields and it appears to me the flocks have broken up. The most
birds together were only 3, one tom and two hens. Another field
would have a jake and tom but no large flocks.
The deer population looks good though, saw close to thirty deer.
Sunday I got up at 4:00 am and went looking around closer to home
(N.H.). I had just gotten to my listening point and heard a faint
gobble. A couple minutes of running got me to within a hundred
yards or so of this bird. So when he was busy gobbling, I snuck
up to him and put my tag on his leg. This should save me time when
I go back Thursday and shoot him. Ha Ha, I wish. I never did spot
this bird and was not trying that hard to get a peek at him, but
I did take note of which direction he took after leaving the roost.
I spotted a hen in one of the fields I hunt and she didn't hang
    around once she saw me.
Monday morining Vermont bound. Hunt Tues. & Weds., back home for
Thursday's opener here in New Hampshire. Can't wait!!
I'll let you know what happened when I get back and good luck to
all you fellow turkey hunters. I know your out there.

Well, how about spouses of turkey hunters?? My husband just got
back from a three day turkey hunt in Western Maryland. The sad
part is that he was unsuccessful :( He had scouted out the area
about 2 weeks ago, found out where they feed etc.. had his spot
all picked out.. But was still unsuccessful. He is not a happy
    camper.

I hope that you have better luck.. Be careful out there.
