375.0. "Proposed $5 Increase for NH Licenses" by 12GAGE::DERIE (I'm the NRA) Fri Mar 10 1989 19:03

     Extracted/condensed from Manchester Union Leader 3/10/89.

   CONCORD - The state's tight financial situation has prompted the
   House Fish and Game Committee to recommend a $5 hike to hunting
   and fishing licenses effective Nov. 15 this year to generate an
   estimated extra $715,000 for the biennium.

   The Fish and Game panel voted 14-3 for House Bill 271 as amended.
   "Due to the flat income from license revenue," the committee re-
   considered its prior action, recommending that the bill be killed,
   reported Rep. William Boucher, R-Londonderry. He said the Fish and
   Game Department has overestimated income by $800,000, and he said
   complicating the situation is the mandated 3 percent reduction in
   spending through Gov. Judd Gregg's executive order.

   The bill hiking the license fees comes to the House floor next week.

   If I'm not mistaken, we had an increase about 2 years ago.

375.1get it now before price increaseSALEM::MACGREGORI'm the NRA/GONH/NAHCSat Mar 11 1989 11:166
    I can't understand why they would raise it in November instead of
    at the beginning of a calender year. I know I will buy my license
    a long time before that happens. But your are right about the last
    increase, that is alos when they came out with the new licenses.
    Was that $5 a license or $5 for the combination?

    The way the article is writen it sounds like $5 each. The state
    sells about 100,000 hunting licenses a year. This alone would
    create about $500,000 towards the goal of $800,000. I'm not sure
    but I think they sell well over 100,000 fishing licenses each
    year. With these figures it seems that the increase is split between
    both.

375.3No added $ for HuntingATEAM::AYOTTEWed Mar 22 1989 10:2916
      Another article in the same newspaper stated that the $5.00 increase
    will apply only to fishing licenses. Of course if you purchase
    a combination fishing/hunting licence you will pay an additional
    $5.00. Someone was quoted as saying that no additional charges
    would be added to hunting licenses because the money wouldn't be
    added to hunting related funds.

    Just a thought.......... maybe the $5.00 will be used to fund search
    parties for all the ill prepared folks that get lost or die in our
    mountains. It certainly won't go towards reclaiming any trout ponds
    or repairing any of our "4X4" boat launches. Sorry... wrong file!
    I don't really have a problem with the extra $5.00. I just have
    a problem with not being told exactly what the money will be used
    for.

375.4how are search parties paidSALEM::MACGREGORI'm the NRA/GONH/NAHCThu Apr 20 1989 14:396
    I had always thought that if there was a search party for someone,
    that it was paid for by that someone. Unless of course that person
    was not around anymore, then maybe insurance might take over. I
    had always thought that it was along the same lines as ambulance
    services.

375.6NH Search/Rescue FundingATEAM::AYOTTEMon Apr 24 1989 11:339
      In NH Henry Mock budgets for search/resue in his law enforcement
    budget. However, in cases of criminal negligence, the states
    prosecutor is going after the loosers for retribution. Seems only
    fair to me.

      Maybe the states should issue hiking licenses and require a mandatory
    safety education program?????????????????????????  semi- 8^)
