344.0. "Mass. pistol permits in jepordy" by SCOMAN::BING () Thu Jan 26 1989 01:59

    In the firearms note #2176 there is talk of an increase in the fee
    of the "license to carry"(pistol permit). the proposal is this:

    1. reduce period from 5 years to 1 year.
    2. raise price from $10 to $20.

    If you want to help stop this proposal call Mr. Hanson (617)727-2040.
    The end date for accepting comments is saturday or sunday 1/27-1/28.
    I think it woyuld be best to call thursdday or friday.1/25-1/26.

    If the duke can't take them away he will do his best to make it
    hard to own one or to even want one.

    From what i understand Mr. Hanson's seceratary is handling all the
    calls so please don't take any frustrations out on her. It's not
    her fault.

    For those that haven't figured out the math, this represents a 1000%
    increase in the fee. For five years it will now cost $100 vs the
    previous $10. I called last night around five and the lady who
    answered said that she had taken at least 75 calls since noon time.
    Call and let them know what you think, it only takes a minute.

    I just called the number and the person who answered stated that
    it had been a misprint! The proposal is to increase the fee from
    10 a five year period, to 20 for a five year period.

344.4Two different responses??KRAPPA::KEYWORTHJohn X2784 WFO/C5Thu Jan 26 1989 11:327
    I called around 10:30 and got the same answer but another guy
    I know called around the same time and and they just took his
    name as someone being opposed to the bill. I was going to put
    this in the firearms file but haven't been able to get back in
    there. What kind of response is everyone else getting.

344.5Look into the future...TUNER::DINATALEThu Jan 26 1989 12:2813
    I don't live in Ma. but this gets me to see RED. I can't understand
    how you (Ma.) people can stand how the state government is run.

    So the state has a deficit, no big deal raise fees and taxes. Now
    the Duke has increased the budget for next year by about 33% ????

    What will he do next year? Raise hunting licenses or just be satisfied
    by rewording the state by-laws to take all of the F+G moneys?
