263.1 | HELP WITH BURRS | COMET::WILLIAMSJ | | Wed Oct 26 1988 20:01 | 10 |
| Linda
Using a stiff wire brush, start at the end of the hair and work
your way to the skin. If you start at the skin and brush out
the hair will knot. Also be careful how hard you pull on the
brush, I got bit brushing burrs out of my dogs hair. It's time
consuming but it's better than cutting all the hair off.
Good Luck

Hi Linda,
I put vaseline (sp?) on my dogs' ears which helps to prevent
any major collection of burrs and the like. I also put it on
the tail and areas that are difficult to clear up after a hunt.
They sell a razor type tool that is intended for the use of
removing burrs and clearing matted fur. I think the tool can
be purchased at most pet stores. I know that Ric's in Leominster
sells this tool.

| I gave up on burrs. When they get out of hand, I shave them down.
They only look funny tillaround Christmas :-)

| i found by accident when giving my springer a bath he was loaded
with burrs , ( springers another name for a burr magnet )
that wetting down the dog it was extremly easy to remove the burrs
just worked them out with my fingers, a metal comb or brush would
work..
