244.1Can't help with Nashua, however...KAYGEE::SAMIAMI do so like green eggs and ham.....Tue Oct 11 1988 16:4710

Can't help out directly for the Nashua area, but if
you get down south a bit, across from the WJO buildings
(thats Westford, Ma) there is a place which sells topos,
and in Northboro, Ma., Forest Orchards sells topos @ $2.75.

Push come to shove, you may find someone working in these
    areas to help you out.

Most places that sell licenses (ie sporting stores) sell topo's
as well. In Derry, Benson's hardware/sporting sells topo's for
all of N.H. In fact, there is a N.H. map sold which has topo's
for all of the N.H. area. It costs about $10.00. Last time I
    bought one that is.....

    Ellis,

I agree with Sam, there is a topo book available for every state
in N.E. and I recommend that you get one. For 10 bucks its
well worth it! I have also seen them in some book stores.

In addition to the above, The County Store on Rt 101-A in Milford, NH has
topos for sale.

The best possible way to get topos is to write to the US Geographical
Survey and ask them for an index map of the state you're interested in.
It's free. You can also get some pamphlets describing topos free. Armed
with such materials you can order your own maps from the government,
usually at a cheaper price than can be bought in the stores.

There are many other types of maps available from the government as well.

The address to write to is on the bottom of every topo map. I do not
however have it handy right now.

I've got the book of topos (GAZETEER) [sp?]. I've seen them
for NH, VT, and ME in the New England area. Ames department
stores sell them for approx. $10.00. It's a MUCH neater package
than toting around a bunch of loose maps that ALWAYS get put
    somewhere that you don't recall where they get put ;-{)}

The gazeteers are great for a quick reference, especially when trying
to locate a new area in a new state. When you have found a suitable
hunting site, then pick up the quadrangle map for that area. It has
much more detail and is scaled, the gazeteers are not.

Jakes Sporting Goods store in Fitchburg, Ma. carries them also

get off Rt 495 at the Boston Road exit ( next exit
northbound after Rt 119), head east toward Rt 110.
Cross Rt 110 and turn left
into a small shopping center. Can't miss it and
they just received a stock of new maps.

    Don,

Believe it or not, C.C. Lowells on Park Ave. in Worcester, carries
Topo's. I was amazed that an arts supply store carries them.

You can obtain maps of most U.S. Forest areas from the local Forest
Service Office. Although not as detailed as U.S Geographical Survey
maps, they beat the heck out of nothing.
