236.0. "Back Lake Trip report" by CSSE::PETERSEN () Mon Oct 03 1988 12:34

Well the annual trip to Back Lake in Pittsburg N.H. was the best
I've ever had. Didn't put on the rain gear once!!!!!!

Headed up last tuesday, fished Back Lake wed & thur from a boat
trolling everything in the tackle box to no avail, fished from the
dock and caught rainbows and brookies on salmon eggs and good ole
worms, a total of 11, nothing over 1 1/2 lbs. Never mind renting
    a boat next year!

Saturday morning hunted just above the second conn. lake for grouse
and rabbits, bagged 4 grouse by 2 pm. - first time I got my limit
and we weren't using a dog. The killer was the weather - about
75 degrees!! Hunted in T-shirts, deer flies and mosquitos everywhere
    but no rain!

Sunday got two more by noon, and then headed home.

Saw one cow moose by the third lake, and three just below the second
    lake, what a sight!

Reservations have already been made for next year - can't wait!

    Brett,

I didn't really think of smoking any of them, I live in an apartment
building so I'd have to go to a friends house to do it, but now
that you mentioned it I think I will. I've smoked pheasant once
before and it came out kinda tough, I don't know if it was the bird
    or the recipe I used.

I think I'll check out another recipe for birds, and smoke a couple
of the trout at the same time.

Since I've been living in the apartment I've forgotten all about
the smoker in the storage bin!!

    Erik,

If you would, please let me know how they come out. I plan on
smoking some partridge this year. I've never tried it before.
I did some trout, perch and bass a few weeks ago and they came
    out pretty good.
