| last year it cost the nonres $80+, any gun that is MANUALLY operated
and is of 25 cal or better was ok. shotguns are ok as long as they
are manual ie pumps,SS etc. NO AUTOLOADERS. Also the ammo could
not be attracted to a magnet.
I used to go to state game land 51 just outside of South Connelsville,
follow sr 119 from the tp (greensburg area) south. If you can join
the
South Connelsville Rod and Gun club you will have a nice railroad
right of way to drive out on to Indian Creek and the Yock. I suggest
you drive the area first w/o your camper to be sure you can get
it in and out. A 4wd pu is the best way to go.
give a call if you need further info...dtn 431-2796

210.3 | No .22s tell me it ain't so! | UNXA::SCODA | | Mon Sep 09 1991 13:37 | 12 |
| Hello, I have a question on Pa. game laws, that hopefully someone out
there can answer. Can .22 rimfire rifles still be used for small game?
On second thought, can .22 revolvers be used for small game?
From what my brothers said, and the reply in .1 it seems that you can
no longer use a .22. Is this true? What is our country comming to?
Thanks,
Dave (who who chomped on a piece of birdshot while eating rabbit as a
kid and would like to use a slug big enough to see when cleaning the
critters.)

I have researched the revolver issue since I use the Pa. public rifle/pistol
ranges. It sounds like you are not a Pa resident. If you are not, forget hunting
with a handgun. In order to hunt with a handgun you must have a valid permit
and it is not possible for a non-resident to get a permit. You can bring
your pistol to the range and use it there. You do not need a permit for
the range but you do need one for hunting (all the
law enforcement people are not familiar with this - I checked with the
Pa state police in Harrisburg and carry their reply along with the copy of the
law).
Don't know about .22 rifles.

210.5 | .22 Rifles are legal for small game in Pa. | USRCV1::GEIBELL | KING FISHING ON LAKE ONTARIO | Tue Sep 10 1991 15:43 | 31 |

the question of .22 caliber rifles for small game is a common
missunderstood law in the Pa game laws.
I think this person read that .22's are illegal to use during the
SPRING TURKEY SEASON, all other small game its legal to use. you are
not allowed to use a semiautomatic rifle/pistol in pa for any game
animals, you are alowed to use a semi auto shotgun for all but DEER,
and BEAR.
I am not familiar with the laws of PA. on handguns anymore, but
when I used to live there they had 2 types of permits, a hunting permit
which entitled you to carry while hunting with the weapon IN FULL VIEW
the weapon could be carried in a vehicle , unloaded and in the open.
The second permit was a protection permit which you were permitted to
carry a loaded weapon conceiled at all times, except for the set no
firearms places.
I have heard that the use of florecent orange for turkey hunting
became law in the last session of game law review, also I believe that
the use of rifles for the fall turkey season has been banned, I found
this out from a pretty good source but untill I talk to the main
headquarters I will treat it as a rumor. I for one hope they do pass
the law, after all anyone can set on one hill and shoot a turkey 100
yards away... with a high power rifle. the sport is calling the bird to
you.

| Re. .4 and .5 Thanks for the info, I was born and raised in Luzerne
county, but moved from Pa. and have only hunted there a few times
since. It used to be that for $.75 the county treasurer would stamp
your hunting license and you could carry a pistol to and from hunting,
and to and from fishing. Looks like things have changed. Guess I'll
have to put a sling on the .22 rifle and carry it along with the 12
guage.
Thanks again,
Dave
