| Naturally, you caught me at work without my reloading notebook.
I knew I should have brought it... :-)
I've found my best accuracy with one of two loads
1) 56 grains of H380 under Sierra 125 grain Pro-hunter (PSP,
I think)
2) 52 grains of Accurate 2460 with same 125 grain bullet.
3) If this qualifies... try 110 gr Varminter with about 52 grains
of 2460 for prairie dogs or whatever pest you have. Check
the load in the Accurate book first, but I believe it to be
correct. Consistently busts prairie dogs at 100 yards unless
I've had too much coffee that morning.

157.3 | Ballistic tips, 150 gr, good for deer? | 20024::HUSTON | | Mon Nov 08 1993 13:12 | 20 |

Is a ballistic tip a good bullet for use out of a .30-06 for
New England sized Whitetails?
I have been given several boxes of them, after test firing they group
exactly (or close enough so I can't tell the difference) to the federal
150 gr I have been using for a couple of years. they are 150 gr as
well.
I am a little hesitant to use them on deer since I know nothing about
the penetration/expansion characteristics of them.
It appears that the pointed tip would either punch right on through
a deer sized game, thus not expanding, or alternately would be driven
back into the lead and help expand, one would be good, one wouldn't.
Are they suitable for New England sized whitetails??

I shot 140 gr ballistic tips of my 7mm Rem Mag. I WOULD NOT shoot
any deer sized animal with them. I hit a 1 gal milk jug filled
with water at 50 yards. I said HOLY $#!! three times before the last
piece of plastic hit the ground. I can only imagine the meat
destruction that this would inflict.

| Personally I think i'd stay away from the 150's... the 165's are considered to be
the load of choice outa the 06 for deer sized game.
