89.0. "NOVA - great program" by NETWRK::GSMITH (Double Trouble ) Wed Nov 25 1987 14:51
Did anyone else watch NOVA last night, November 24th. It's on PBS
(channel 2 in Boston area).
The topic was Rocky Mountain elk. It was VERY interesting. The program
followed a herd of elk thru a year. The rutting rituals, territorial
dominace by the bulls, fights, etc. It showed the VERY tough winters
, approximately 15% of the herd succumbs each year! Interesting
facts like cows have only one offspring each year, with a 50% mortality
rate! I can now see why there are such stringent regulations on
elk hunting. The show really gave me an understanding of how elk
live in the wild.
I would like to go on, but back to work...

| I taped it for the future, when elk fever starts again. It is one
of the best films on elk behavior I've seen. Talk about BIG, the
bulls they showed where nice ones.
(in Co. channel 8 PBS)
