86.0. "Can you take two buck during the Bow Season?" by TALLIS::GALLANT () Fri Nov 20 1987 10:13

    	I have a question about taking deer in Mass. I know a young
    guy that has taken two buck in Mass this year during the Bow Season.
    One was a 7 point 150 lb buck and the other was an 8 point 155 lb
    buck. These were two beautiful buck. I would say that this
    was an incredible year for this young man.

    	I was surprised to learn that you could take 2 bucks during
    the bow season. The way I read the laws was that you could take
    one buck during the bow season and one during the gun season.

    	I am going to call the game warden with this question but I
    thought I would enter it here for discussion.

86.1I am talking shotgun seasonNETWRK::GSMITHDouble Trouble Fri Nov 20 1987 13:4712
     I know a few years ago that you could take a doe and a buck in
    MA, provided you had the doe permit. I think you could also take
    two bucks that year, on ONE license, but I'm not sure. I'm sure
    about the buck and doe, cause somebody in my party got a doe, and
    we simply got her tagged, and he was given another buck only tag.

    I am not sure what the rules are for 87 though. I have never had
    this 'problem', but would like too *:).

    TWO BUCKS! ooohhhhh .... why can't I be that lucky some year...

    Yes, it is legal to take two deer during the season (you can still
    use bows during shotgun) the only law is only one can be a doe.
    Since your friend is out for the season MAYBE he would indicate
    at least what part of the state he hunted.
    I don't know about anyone else, but, I have only seen does so far?

86.32 deer, one must have hornsTWOBOS::LAFOSSEMon Nov 23 1987 09:4718
    your allowed to take two deer any method, provided that at least
    one of them has horns (legal length). However, both must be bucks
    when hunting during the shotgun season, unless you hold a doe permit.

    so if your hunting archery, you could take a doe and buck, or two
    bucks...

    if you shoot a doe during archery, your next deer must be a buck
    regardless of whether or not you hold a doe permit.

    if you shoot a doe during shotgun on a permit, you must now only
    shoot at bucks during the remainder of the shotgun season or the
    muzzleloader season.  etc. etc. etc.
