69.0. "Hunting October Whitetail...a video" by BRAT::DAVIS_K () Wed Oct 28 1987 13:31

Recently, I stopped by Steve's Sportsmen Den in Hooksett, NH. I
rented a video called "Hunting October Whitetail". It is a
excellent video. It contains multiple parts. The part i am going
to talk about is "Why Bowhunters miss"...
These are two of the facts (with real life video shots)
    demonstrated in this section:

A deer can drop down a full body height in .3 tenths of a second.
(recommendation aim at the 1/3 lower area of the kill spot)

A deer can turn and twist it's body about 90 degrees in that above
timeframe. (recommendation...hope that the deer is not at full
                 alert)

Now imagine a bow that is shooting a hunting broadhead with a speed
of 210 feet per second. Imagine shooting at a deer say 35 yards
away. If the speed of the arrow is consistent, which it is not,
but say it is, that deer potentially has time!

The point of this is that the best of us don't necessarily hit
the target where we want to, especially if the deer is alerted to
us. Rent the vid, it's worth the $2.50....

     What do you all think?

I am one bowhunter who has witnessed just how quick a deer can move.
I was in my tree stand in vermont, and a doe came and stopped directly
below me. I could have stepped out of my stand and landed on her.
Anyways, I had my bow drawn on the back of her neck while she stood
there and stared me down. The exact moment my fingers left the string
she dropped her head and body down so fast that all I got out of
that hunt was a few strands of whitetail hair, and believe me it
wasn't because I got off a bad shot. (which I have done on numerous
    occasions.)

I rented the same video last weekend for $2.00 :-) Picked it
    up at Wildlife Taxidermy.

I knew it would be a good video when I saw that one of the Wensel's
(Barry) was in the video. He made a running 25 yard shot on a fast
moving whitetail and got it right smack-dab in the boiler room!
I was impressed to say the least. Him and his brother Gene are some
of those purists that use only recurve bows.

The successful shots were impressive. And the misses were real
good too since they showed in "living color" how whitetails evade
    arrows...

One of the most impressive outdoor videos that I've yet rented!
