57.1 | I tried some | GENRAL::BOURBEAU | | Fri Oct 16 1987 16:51 | 5 |
| I've tried them in my 30-06. They're boatails,and load well
without tip damage. I find them very accurate,but I've only used
them on targets,so I don't know how they are for hunting.
Sorry I don't have more,

| Fra, it happens I have a copy of Shooting Times here, dated Oct.'85
with an artivle introducing the ballistic tip bullets. The Ballistic
Tip is made for rapid expansion, more than Nosler's Solid Base,
which in turn opens up faster than the famous Partition. The BT
retains energy well because of the boat tail design, and no loss
of efficiency from deformed/flattened tips. Use for rapid expansion
rather than deep penetration, eg. antelope and whitetails vs. large
mulies or elk.

57.3 | Nosler vs sierra | DECWET::HELSEL | A thousand points of lightwt threads | Wed Mar 29 1989 17:35 | 31 |
| I am responding to this note after pondering note 159.
When Fra first entered this note about 2 years ago, I had never
used Noslers. I thought that I might want to try them some day
to see what a truly superior bullet was like. It has to be a superior
bullet. After all, my favorite bullets, sierra, cost about $11.00
for 100 units. Nosler Partitions cost about $15.00 for 50. At that
price they've gotta be good!
What I found out with mty .300 Weatherby loads is that I was unable
to get a good group using Nosler partition or Nosler BT bullets.
Actually, the groups are ok in that I could take a large animal with
them, but the group is not as good as other bullets I've experimented
with.
When I tested Noslers against Sierras, I *expected* the Nolser to
demonstrate more accuracy.
I have also tested Noslers in other .30 caliber firearms. Specifically
I have loaded them in .30-06 and .308. I have used 150 and 165 grain
Noslers and compared them to similar wt sierra BTs.
I have personally found that sierras outperform Noslers and I would
recommend sierras over Nosler for accuracy. Therefore, to answer
Fra's original question, I don't think Noslers are worth the extra money
and I would prefer sierra at even the same price.
I would be very interested to see what others have found with regard
to nolsers.

57.4 | match rounds make small holes! | VLNVAX::HEDERSTEDT | T.B.S. | Mon Apr 24 1989 11:59 | 14 |
| I have never been able to group Noslers to tack-driving holes.I have
tried in .243,.270,.280,7mm and one other I don't remember.But the
spread at 100yds has been about 1 to 1". I feel that the Nosler is a
Hunting bullet not a match bullet and that is its strong point! The
performance of its expanding properties have been proved time and time
again!
Serria has a premiem (?sp) bullet that is in the same catagory as
the Nosler,They are a hunting bullet not match quality.
I have found that that most of the hunting designed heads will not
group quite as well as the other bullets. Thats my experence anyway!
