I have a 6 hp Johnson Sea Horse motor (early 70's? ) that needs the starting pull cord replaced. I picked up some new cord, wrapped it around the spiral gear, pull, and the motor fires right up. But the cord doesn't spring back into place. Anyone know how to install the starting pull cord so that it can recoil after starting ? Thanks, Ken

It sound like you rapped the rope around the spiral. You have to clockwise load the rope onto the spiral, another words put the rope in the notch and crank the spiral so that you feel tension, you are actually tightening the spring. Then place the spiral on the crank shaft with it fully wound, rope all the way in the housing, handle butt flush. Dennis |
