I have a 70hp Johnson that runs fine when warm, but if you shut off the engine and restart quickley (w/ choke)it coughs and hesitates. Could this be a choke related problem ? I am planning on re-building the carbs soon, and changing the floats, needle valves etc.

Not sure I quite understand....but why are you attempting to restart the engine with the choke *ON* if the engine is already warm? It's not necessary to engage the choke and will, indeed make the engine cough and hesitate.

When I re-start I have to use choke no matter if the engine is off for 1 minute or 5 minutes.

RE: .2 I have a 4 yr. old 70hp Johnson. When it was new I had to fuss with it on cold starts. It's less fussy every year, easier to start when cold. Warm starts have -always- been just a touch of the key, no choke, no prime. B.C. |
