1235.0. "Deckboats" by GRANPA::GHALSTEAD () Fri Jul 28 1995 11:12

    I saw several pictures of what is called a Deckboat in a recent
    magazine. The concept seems pretty neat. I think these are suppose to
    be a cross between a bowrider and pontoon boat. I would love to hear
    about any experiences anyone has had with these types of boats.

1235.1Rented one last April...SUBPAC::CRONINFri Jul 28 1995 12:028
	   We rented a 22' Chapparall(sp?) deck boat in Florida. 7 of us
	piled in with fishing gear, coolers, etc. The boat was BIA rated
	for 12 or 14 people. It had a V-8 Merc I/O. Even with the bimini
	up (and this is a big bimini top!) it would do just short of 40 mph.
	Not bad for a barge! It may have done better but the prop was -very-
	dinged and worn. We had a good time with the boat.

    Sounds like you had a great time! Out of curiosity, was it relatively
    expensive to rent one? They look like you could have a lot of fun with
    one.

	I'm pretty sure that I've seen a deck boat docked close
	to the ramp at Quabog in No Brookfield. I did a double-take
	riding down the road last weekend when I saw this deck in the
	water, complete with lattice and railings around the perimiter,
	and I noticed a motor on the back! I've never seen anything
	like it.

1235.4Gonna make my brain work, huh?SUBPAC::CRONINFri Jul 28 1995 15:2010
	RE: .2
		I -think- it was around $145 for the day. Plus about
	about $40 for gas... If the prop hadn't been so bad the gas
	bill would have been lower... Of course, the marina didn't want
	to talk about that...

		I own a little 15' Whaler w/70hp so this was very different
	for me. I still prefer a CC boat, but that's just my opinion.

1235.5They're great lake boats.TMAWKO::BELLAMYChrome don't getcha home.Mon Jul 31 1995 09:227
    They are extremely popular here (Lake Norman, NC). The dealer where
    I bought my Chaparrell said that they have had a number of people
    trade their ski-boat and pontoon boat both in on one deck-boat.
    I see them pulling skiers all the time on the lake here. I looked at
    a new one but could make myself spend $25K, so I got another cuddy.

    Just looking at them they seem the perfect solution when you have kids
    and their friends and all you want is cruising, swimming, skiing,
     inertubing etc. on the lake. Some have fresh water sinks, and heads.

    How long have they been making these things ?

    	There are a bunch of these boat on Big Island Pond in Derry N.H.
    I've skied and driven one. These are great boats but around 20,000
    new they should be. The name on the boats is Hurrican. Rockingham
    Boat Repair on RT 111 in Hampstead N.H. is a dealer of these boats.
