1214.0. "Fitchburg Marine and Boat Repair?" by HAGGLE::dorian (Tim Dorian) Sun Apr 30 1995 21:22

Has anyone ever dealt with Fitchburg Marine and boat Repair? They have
recently moved to Mass Ave in Lunenburg. The reason I'm asking is because
I cannot believe the low price they quoted for servicing my outdrive and
replacing the impeller. $80.00? Here's the real kicker. They're going to
trailer my boat back and forth from the shop for me!

My final comment was "yeah you tell me 80 then tell me it's a 180 after it's
all apart. Their response was "we don't work that way."

A positive reference would make me feel a lot better.

	Tim,

 I have never used Fitchburg Marine, but used Valley Marina in Ringe NH.
 just over the border from Winchendon on rt202, and Tri-City marine on rt2a
 just before Lunenburg center.

	You would'nt happen to know the owner's/mechanics name, would you???
 I may know him although never been there.......

Well so far I received 2 positive mail messages about this place. The person
I'm dealing with is Vinny Deluca. It looks like I'll give them a try.

1214.3Fitchburg Marine - great service!IAGO::PROVENCALThu May 04 1995 08:288
Hi,

We had our 1993 Four Winns winterized by Vinny last year. He was great to deal with and very reasonably
priced. A couple of weeks ago we brought it back in and he got it ready for the new season! Brought
it in on Thursday and picked it up Friday!. He also has a great selection of Tubes, skis, vests, etc.
and matches the prices in the E&B (?) catalog!

	Cathi,

	May I ask what Fitchburg Marine charged you to winterize your
	boat last year?

	thanks

1214.5I'm very pleasedHAGGLE::dorianTim DorianFri May 05 1995 06:5915
Well the verdict is in. They did an excellent job. The price came to about
100 dollars over their estimate, but this was now way their fault. I had
bought this boat used last year and it appears that the previous owner had
never serviced the out-drive. The impeller had gotten bound up and got so
hot that it and the casing it sits in were melted. Since the boat uses
a heat exchanger to cool it, nothing serious took place.

Without even asking they gave me all of the old parts. I was there when the
unit was apart. One of the mechanics (Brian) gave me a detailed overvue of the
out-drive and how to pull it apart.

I'll be sending my boat to them in fall. They charge 100.00 to winterize
your boat. This includes pulling off and servicing the out-drive.
