1204.0. "Florida/Bahamas boat rental/Charter/Cruise possibilities" by KAHALA::SUTER (Never too Hot!) Mon Jan 09 1995 12:39

The thought has arisen of possibly spending some time
in Florida during the current cold season of New England. Along
with some skiing (of course) we've thought about obtaining a large
boat to travel from Fla to the Bahamas. While I, of course, would merely
like to rent some beast in the 40+ foot range with triple 454s, fire that
baby up and head east at a rapid pace, common sense says otherwise...

I'm not sure what the possibilities are in this area.... Neither
Jackie or myself feel confident enough in our piloting abilities to handle
the 60 mile trip from Maimi to the Bahamas without some serious training, even
then it's questionable. For instance, the loran just died, where are we right
now, so we can plot a course.... (get the picture?)

Anyone have any hints on what might be available? Boat only?
Capt Ron's boat? Maybe a ?smallish? cruise ship?

Thanks,

Rick

How about commuter airline? The ATR-72 (71, 38 or whatever it is) shouldn't
have any icing problems between Miami and the Bahamas. :-) Then rent a *real*
boat in the Bahamas for skiing.

BTW, you're scum if you go to Florida/Bahamas and we're stuck up here. :-)

    FOlks,

I don't know about renting the boat, but I know there are regular
group trips from FL to the Bahamas. It involves many boats, mostly
beginner types lead by a few boats that have much more experience. I
have heard of as many as 50 boats going across at a time. Not quite the
secluded sea adventure you may want, but it is a chance to take the
trip in a low risk environment.
