1185.0. "CONSIGNMENT BOAT SELLING" by PULMAN::PLX95::PACIULAN () Thu Aug 18 1994 17:00

I've just listed a boat for sale in the classifieds (note 3). What I'm
asking here is whether anyone knows of a reputable dealer who does
consignment selling? I will be leaving Digital for a California job in
September and will probably need someone to sell my boat (located in Lake
Winnepesaukee area of N.H.) on my behalf if I can't sell it on my own
beforehand. I will be trying my original dealer (Irwin Marine in
Laconia), but was wondering about others.

Does anyone have any other suggestions, recommendations (e.g.
WantAdvertiser magazine, etc.)?

Thanks,

-- Dick Paciulan

1185.1Manchester and AmherstNUBOAT::HEBERTCaptain BlighThu Aug 18 1994 17:485
A friend recently checked around. Owens Marine in Manchester sells on
consignment; they quoted my friend 10% commission. Wilderness Marine in
Amherst quoted them 30% (I was not surprised).

1185.2Owens worked for meRANGER::MACINTYRETerminal AnglerThu Aug 18 1994 20:489
    I've sold 2 (bass) boats through Owens on consigment. They just
    sold my Ranger for me a couple weeks ago. I'd reccommend them,
    especially if your talking for a boat worth over $10K. Odds are the
    buyer will be financing it and Owens will take care of that for them.

    I too was amazed at the Wilderness fee when I talked to them a few
    years back.

1185.3Bob's BeaconNITMOI::WOODFri Aug 19 1994 10:495
    Bob's Beacon Marine in Newbury (Sunapee Lake) does consignment. 10%
    is their rate. The owner had told me they were moving lots of used
    boats as they had sold out their allotment of 4Winns for the season...
    We were going to sell through them, but a neighbor bought it the day
    I was going to tow it to Bob's...
1185.4Try a wholesalerWEDOIT::MALCOLMFri Aug 19 1994 16:106
    Another option is to find a marine wholesaler. They will typically buy
    the boat for what they feel is its wholesale value. The disadvantage is
    that you get less money. The advantage is that t he deal is completed
    quickly.

1185.5CONSIGNMENT DEALERAIMHI::MARCHANDWed Aug 24 1994 14:2910
    WE BOUGHT OUR MASTERCRAFT PROSTAR FROM SOMEONE SELLING IT ON
    CONSIGNMENT AT RAYS MARINA ON RTE 16 IN MILTON NH- THEY HAVE BEEN
    DECENT TO DEAL WITH. IF YOU CALL ASK FOR DIANE- SHE IS THE OWNERS
    DAUGHTER AND BASICALLY RUNS THE MARINA (FROM A KNOWLEDGE STANDPOINT)
    AVOID THE SALESMEN IF YOU CAN, THEY ARE A PUSHY BUNCH!

    GOOD LUCK,
