| "To enroll by phone, call: 1-703-461-2866". Sorry, I can't find an 800
number to enroll. $17 per year but their prices are pretty good.
You could also try calling 1-800-555-1212 and ask for a 800 number for
E.B. Bliss. They just sent out their 1994 Marine Discount Catalog.
No membership required and they have a store in Woburn (I think) at the
intersection of Rt 128 and I93 which is very well stocked. I've done
business at both places and have been very pleased.

Boat US will match any liwer published price. And their service is
great- very prompt. Most suff I order I receive with 1 or two days. ON
a small order, I have called them in the morning and gotten the order
by UPS the following afternoon. I get several catalogs- here are soem
of my comments:
Boat US- pretty decent selection - good on special order, and the high
volume stuff. NOt so good on hardware, supplies. The heav a store in
Waltham.
BLISS/E&B- pretty decent - service by mail order is ok. They gave a
store in Dedham- but I get irritated as store help is impossible to
find, they tend to be not terribly knowledgable. Very convenient for
me as my daughter works right across the street. They tend to go light
on stcok in the deham store and I have gotten very frustrated with
their stock-out's at the beginning of the season.
Dedham-617-329-2430
wrawick,R.I.-401-785-3313/401-785-9220 (2 stores)
DEFENDER- the "schlockhaus" of the Industry- but improving . Good
proices, abominable service, the best selection on the market
Tremendous selection of fasteners, resins, glass/kevalr cloth,
materials and supplies. You can buy resin in 55 gal drums if you like.
They are in New Rochelle. N.Y.
OVERTON'S- lot's of ski, and glitz stuff.More for the ski and small
boat/pwc enthusiasts- not my kind of place- although they did have the
best price on a high quality Bimini.
WARD MARINE- WInthrop mass great for engine's /engine parts. AFter
market water pumps, gaskets, manifolds, etc. Very knowledgable and good
service. They have a catalog- prices are competitive. I ordered a new
water pump for MY OMC I/O- delaer list was $85 and not in stock. Ward's
had it in Stock- received it at my home the next day and cost was $53.
617-925-1593
JAMESTOWN DISTRIBUTORS, Jamestown Rhode Island- Baot builder's suppliesand
baotbuilder's tools- no books, clothes, brick-brack. The absolute best
prices for fasteners qnd fittings. They have a catalog of about which
half is SS,Monel, brass,Bronze, galvanized fasteners and fittings. they
also have good porices on marine wire if you ever have to rewie a boat
and have marine electrical connecters in bulk.

I've got one other catalog- firm just cahanged their name-to something
like freetown supply- they are in N.J.Freetown supply is the name, I
believe. Lots of engine/mechanical stuff and supplies with a limited
amount of acesories. Excellent service-good prices on aluminum and
plastic fuel tanks- prompt delivery also. The had the best price on a
new tilt motor for my I/O- $125 vs over 250 from the delaer -- with the
same Prestolite part #. I'll try to post the no's tomorrow.
ON some Items (like paint) prices are very competitive- when you get
into stuff like manifolds, exhaust hose, fuel tanks, water pumps- there
can be a big varaition between different suppliers, so I make up my
list, compare prices and usually send out 2 or three order at the
beginning of the season..
WEst Marine used to be pretty good, but shipping from Calif was to
high- the have just opened one or two stores in Mass- now the shipping
is less , but you pay sales Tax.

One nit: West now has a distribution center in Charlotte, NC.
I noticed this one day, and was stunned. I had avoided
ordering from them because of the cost/delay for the west(ha)
coast shipping.

| You're right, Wayne. I sent off the summer edition of the '93 Overton's
Discount Marine catalog to Dave in .0. Even though it's the "Discount Marine"
catalog, there's the obligatory 6 pages of swimwear. Guess it kinda breaks up
the monotony of page after page of "just boat stuff". :-) Oh yeah, don't think
they forgot the ladies. There's one (count them, ONE) male model in a tan-thru
suit. Ah marketing, what a concept!

| At the Boat Show in RI last month, Bliss Marine was not passing out
catalogs. I called the store, they gave me an number for having
one sent: 800-533-5007. The store is off exit 14 on 128.

1149.11 | Land + Sea | SALEM::NORCROSS_W | | Thu Feb 24 1994 09:37 | 9 |
| Land + Sea, P.O. Box 96, North Salem, NH. 03073. (603)-329-5645 or
fax# (603)-329-5036 for new 48 page catalog. And I quote "World's
leading manufacturer of outboard performance accessories".
I heard that the guy who owns Land + Sea bought his own lake in N.H.
because he used to test his products on a lake here in Salem. The
other residents of the lake didn't appreciate his cruising around at
60 - 80 MPH all day long.
