1148.0. "Goodbye to DEC - but not my friends" by SOLVIT::CHACE (My favorite season is getting nearer!) Fri Jan 28 1994 09:26

  Its with great sadness that the time has come for me when I have to say
goodbye. I have been swept up in a wave of TFSO and though I worked hard
    all week to find another position, the clock is running out. Today at 5
    is it for me.

  I have worked in Digital for 17 years and have met an incredible number
of wonderful folks; I'll miss you all.

  As sad as this all feels, I do believe that I will do well outside. I
think in the long run, this will be good for me - a transition that will
help me grow and prosper even further than I already have.

  There do seem to be jobs out there to be had; I'm sure there's one with
my name on it. Its just a matter of finding it. I already have a couple
of leads. I also am a partner in a start-up software company. We aren't
making a profit yet, but every day it is getting better. So I have high
hopes for that as well.

  I'm not moving, because I love this area. And I will still be on the net,
the internet. So I can be reached by mail anytime. I would love to stay
in touch with you all. Please write or call or anything. Its very hard to
stay in touch with friends as they move around, but we can try.

    Kenny,

    	I am surely saddened by the fact that your presence and
    world of boating knowledge will not be felt in boats.note.
    Afterall, who the hell is going to say anything about outboard
    motors now?
    	I wish you all the best in your future endeavors and I'm
    confident that things will work out well.
    	I'll update the GB mailing list with your internet address.

    Good luck, Dude!

    Well, best of luck to you. I've been meaning to look you up during one
    of my numerous visits to MK1. Many of my good friends from my 17 years
    of working in CSS are leaving today from your group.
    By the way, I live on Parker Road, also. #41.

	Another wave of TFSO is upon us - this time I have been "selected" (-:
		{"wave" -  just the right term for it in this conference}

	Right now my position is "at risk" and my notification date is
tuesday May 31st. My last day will be friday June 3rd. - unless

a)	I get a solid job offer and the hiring manager gets a message
to my boss's mail account by/on tuesday. {unlikely}

b)	I get a solid job offer before next friday, the SLT member
for the hiring cc will sign me in and the slt member for my current cc
will sign me across {very unlikely}.

c)	The "at risk" list always extends a little above the actual
cut line. My name may already be above the actual cut line, and/or
some people above me in the list might "jump at the chance" and
thereby effectively move my name up. {even less likely}

d)	The corporation suddenly decides to stop hacking "costs" and
start investing in the future. {probability not known (^: }

	So, if I don't get to do it again - its bin phun noting wiv Ya.

Hey Reg, I just interviewed someone for a software job here in LKG this morning.
Think you can learn to program in C before Friday?  :-}

Seriously, that really bites. Yet another example of the fine job our bean
counters are doing.  :-(

It has indeed been a pleasure noting with you. I hope we can still do some
skiing in the *VERY* near future. The water is back in our lake, so you'll have
to drag the family (and the FBB) down to RI this year. We might even have a ski
show too!

Hoping one of your "unlikely" choices comes true!
